“Treated Like Something They'd Stepped In”
Reviewed March 22, 2010

I have often fancied stay at St. Tudno but not anymore! During our winter stay in Llandudno in 2008, my wife and I were heading back to our hotel when we spotted the 'Bar & Restaurant Open To The Public' sign outside the St. Tudno. "Great!", I thought. "Fancy a quick drink in St. Tudno?", I asked my wife. "Why not?", my wife replied. So, in we went. It was very nice and cosy as we entered the bar area. Nicely decorated with a roaring fire to boot! Very cosy indeed. We approached the bar and we're greeted by a very friendly barman. He took our drink order and started to pour. All of a sudden, a rather large female ambassador for St. Tudno asked us if we were staying at the hotel. We said we were not and we were just coming in for a drink. "The bar is for guests only.", said the large lady. "It says open to the public outside.", I replied. "Well, it's not! Please go!", she said. Shocked, we did. No point in arguing. Why on Earth would we want to drink there after that? We were dressed very smartly, having just been to restaurant, so I really have no idea why she saw fit to treat us in such a manner. Needless to say that this put us off ever staying at St. Tudno. Perhaps she didn't like my tie.

Stayed in St Tudno with my daughter for one night in March. Afternoon tea was a lovely experience, dinner was overpriced but very good and the service was also very good. Upstairs was another matter. We stayed in a 'superior room' which was tired, very small and had a strange smell. We couldn't use the bath because each time we ran the water something resembling seaweed ran out of the tap. The proprietor looked at it and apologised, but no concessions were made and we were charged full price for the room. With so many hotels in Llandudno I would definitely go back for afternoon tea, but would stay somewhere else next time.

“ We are a couple from the Midlands who were both widowed. Having a Wedding away from home appealed as we could take with us those friends and family who have supported us in our new life together.

In December 2008, we were in Llandudno and called in at the St Tudno for coffee. The Staff were so friendly and the hotel is so welcoming in a lovely position on the seafront.

We were told that they had recently been granted a licence to hold Civil Weddings only because the Owner`s Daughter had a wish to marry in the Family Hotel.
We returned for a stay in March 2009 and again in October 2009, booking the Wedding for 24th February 2010.
NOTHING was too much trouble for the staff, We took over the whole hotel and booked nearly all the rooms for our party of 30 to stay over.

David Rees, the Local registrar conducted a personalised ceremony which we had input into the Vows and our friend was able to read a poem. The ceremony took place in the front sitting room overlooking the sea and the Wedding Breakfast was celebrated in the Restaurant with its murals depicting the Italian Lakes.(see Hotel Website)

The Hotel Staff let us arrange the Wedding that WE wanted, rather than expecting us to comply with the standard Wedding Package that most hotels seem to offer.

For instance, we had our group breakfast next morning at a later time than is usual, followed by a trip on the Vintage Coach for a couple of hours tour and returned for a Group Lunch, all the time using our Special Seating Arrangements, so the whole two days was a continued family party.

The Choice for the Menu was virtually unlimited and we received plenty of help and advice from Anne who runs the Front of House and Ian the Chef in choosing our Menu which included a rather special Gin and Tonic Sorbet and for a main Course beautiful Welsh Lamb. Other touches included Dessert Plates decorated with Chocolate "Congratulations Sue & Ian"

For entertainment, we chose a Welsh Harpist during the daytime and a locally recommended Guitarist Phil Gardiner to play during our Meal.

We are a "mature" couple and did not want dancing but understand that this could be arranged if required.

Our Flowers were done by Darren Edgeley of Edgeleys Florists, we received personal service and a beautiful result.

Our Photographs were done by Martin Vaughan of Colwyn Bay and are spectacular!

Overall if you want a personally arranged Civil Wedding or just a Reception at the Hotel, you will not be disappointed with the St Tudno. Martin Bland, the owner and all his Staff will personally look after you.

Having chosen to Marry away from home, we needed the Support of various Professionals to put the day together and we can wholeheartedly recommend the people that we met in North Wales. (and the weather was Sunny in February!)

We have left feeling like friends and would personally like to thank Martin Bland, Anne, Hayley, Petra, Graham, Ian, Chris, and all the other staff for making our day so special.”

We stayed at St Tudno Hotel for my Mom's wedding. All the staff were excellent!!!!. We stayed in the Alice Suite, which was very comfortable, clean and was great for a family of five.
The food was excellent!!
A fabulous setting for a wedding, highly recommend.

Our children had a fantastic time in the pool and love the visits from Sammy the Seagull.

Can't wait to visit again

We booked a Valentines night meal in the restaurant and it was fabulous.

From when we first walked into the bar and ordered our drinks to when we left and were handed our coats we felt that we were special and were being spoilt. All the staff were excellent, the service was quick and the food was absolutely brilliant.

The meal we had was 5/6 courses presented extremely well without going over the top, the portion sizes were just right leaving you looking forward to the next course and leaving the table feeling full but not at all bloated. Following the Champagne and canapés, appetisers and soup or gin and tonic sorbet (the G & T sorbet was unusual but really really nice) came the best bit of the meal. From a choice of around six or so main courses we both went for the Fillet Steak Wellington. Served with about a dozen nice small portions / tasters of different vegetables and potato mash with cheese in it's own small copper pan the Beef Wellington was amazing and cooked to perfection. The meal was finished off with a cheese board for my partner (the cheese apparently was served at exactly the right temperature) and dessert for myself. That truly was one of the best meals we have had and we fully intend to sample their full menu soon.

Including drinks before and after, a bottle of medium priced wine and pudding wine the bill was less than £120.00 for two. In a regular restaurant you might expect to pay around £90 for a meal for two but you get what you pay for and this meal was absolutely worth it.

When I write a review I tend to be a bit critical but I can honestly say that apart from the butter being to cold to spread there was nothing wrong with the restaurant, the staff, the service and especially the food. Would I recommend the restaurant, absolutely.

My partner and I spent 3 nights at the hotel in a twin room overlooking the back of the hotel. The room was very clean and tidy, being serviced every morning and the beds turned down every evening. We did think, however that it was quite over-priced, compared to similar hotels we had stayed in.
The staff , and proprietor, were extremely helpful and friendly, going out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable.
The food (breakfast) was excellent with a good choice available, coupled with impeccable service - a real taste of good old fashioned politeness and courtesy. Nothing we asked for was too much trouble.
We would certainly consider staying again, and would recommend this lovely hote to anyone.

I booked three rooms here for a Saturday night in June 2009 when most of the hotels in Llandudno were insisting on a two-night minimum stay. The service, right from the moment I booked on line was superb. Firstly, the hotel wrote to me with a confirmation, brochure and details on how to get there. When we arrived we were shown straight to our rooms and given very clear explanations of how everything worked and then where to park. We had drinks before and after going out (a good wine list) and were looked after very well by the staff. I'd particularly mention the assistant manager Chris who was helpful and friendly - nothing was too much trouble. A couple in the bar mentioned to him as he was serving their drinks that they'd had a problem with their TV and straight away he fixed it for them. The location, right on the promenade, is first rate. T The rooms were clean and comfortable. We didn't have dinner in the hotel (we had it at an Italian restaurant called Valentino's just round the corner which was good) but we had breakfast and that was very good. Check out was at 11 but the hotel let us keep our two cars in the garage till we came back from a walk on the Great Orme - which was closer to 1pm - which was very helpful and much appreciated. It wasn't the cheapest but I would certainly choose it again. (If you're a golfer, there are two very good courses which offer reduced twilight hour green fees.)
