“Better than expected”
Reviewed March 9, 2014

We had seen this hotel at various prices recently and when we saw a double room with continental breakfast for £28.00 we decided to chance it. It was an annex room which was a bit awkward to get to and really needs a lamp on the back steps but the room itself had everything we required. It was clean and comfortable with a good little television and plenty of soaps etc in the shower room. It was a little too hot but better than too cold. When we went down for breakfast we were offered the full range and it was all well cooked.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, a pleasant stay in a very convenient spot.

We booked this hotel late on the Friday night and we were advised it was in the annex, i was confident because we stayed before that the standard of rooms were high.

We arrived and I went to park the car with great difficulty and my husband booked in, when we met up he explained we are in a room downstairs next to the kitchen, with a view of a car park, I said ok let's see we paid £68.00 for this room with breakfast apparently it was the last one, for one night I could put up with it.

When I got in I noted black dust on the skirting boards, the curtain was hanging off, the bed throw was stained and ripped, we just closed the curtains because it was looking straight out on to a car park. Then staff would arrive and leave via a side door near our room banging the door.

The rooms radiator was working very hot to touch but the room was very cold.

There was no radiator in the bathroom so we felt too cold to shower.

As the night progressed we settled down to watch TV , the reception was bad and kept stopping and starting, we switched off our phones thinking it was that but the reception was still bad.

So we decided to retire early because we were cold, then a bright security light shone in too our room from an adjacent property making it difficult to sleep, with the noise of the banging door an the kitchen near by we did not sleep well.

As we were retiring to bed I went to wash and opened the en suite door and the most horrendous
Sewerage smell hit me. This was the final straw, I went to reception and spoke to the receptionist
I asked for a change of room, she was very nice and explained they were full, I felt she was telling the truth because when we booked it it was the last one.

I explained to her my concerns about the room and asked her to come and smell the sewerage smell in the en suite, she agreed and said she could not do anything but would leave a message for the manager in the morning.

I met the manager in the morning she had been left details of my concerns and I said I would prefer to outline my complaint with her rather than put my on views on trip-advisor .

She listened to my list of complaints and was looking rather vacant and I said would you like to come and view the room and I will show you, she agreed and brought one of her colleagues with her. As I outlined things such as the black dust she said I will have a word with house keeping, the view, no comment was made, the ripped and stained throw, no comment made, the smell had disappeared by this time but I assured her it was there and her colleague has smelt it, no comment was made, the radiator missing in the en suite and her colleague said none of the rooms have radiators in the bathrooms. The bright light shinning all night through the curtains, no comment made. The cold room, she said was you not offered a fan?

I explained that £68.00 for this standard was not acceptable and felt a refund or partial refund was what I wanted. She said she had no authority to do this and I would have to fill out a complaint form outlining my complaint, with my email address and phone number, I did this and have not had a phone call or an email I have waited since Monday for a reply and none was received

I stayed at this hotel on the 1.3.14 and the date of this review is 6.3.14 I feel I gave plenty of time for them to even acknowledge they were dealing with the complaints. I booked via booking.com.

Nice hotel. Stayed last year but sorry to see such a hike in prices online. Next time will look for alternate accommodation if prices still so high as there are many other hotels in the area of the same standard just lower prices...which frequent visitors want good deals.
Other than the price, the only thing i could complain about would be the dust on the chrome lamps and dirty windows inside.
Reception staff very helpful and friendly. Food nice and good location

me and my partner booked a night here for his birthday, we had the honeymoon suite last minute for £38!! we didn't expect much for it! and some reviews on here left us feeling a bit dubious!
However when we arrived we loved it, it was clean and modern in reception area and our room was gorgeous, they even put stars and flowers on the bed and left a bottle of fizz and chocolates as I explained it was a birthday not a honeymoon. lovely clean room, only problem is a common one where the bed was two singles pushed together which as im sure some of you know can be a tad inconvenient if its a romantic night away!!! other than that, pretty perfect actually!! XXX

Room Tip: honeymoon suite

Stayed here before. This time we had a dinner, B&B package for £49. On request we were allocated a sea view room on the 1st floor, comfy giant bed, great bathroom and armchairs by the window so we could sit with a cuppa and 'people watch. The evening meal was beyond expectations, top quality, well cooked and well served. Same with breakfast. Wish we could have stYED LONGER.

Room Tip: recommend asking for 1st floor sea view rooms. Believe the 'double' room in the annex has o...

I recently visited this hotel. First of all, it was so easy to check in, no filling loads of forms out.

I had room G1 to which as you can imagine would v. Noisy as it's in the lab by area, but it was not!! The room was fantastic! Very well presented, clean and new with a LCD TV mounted on the wall.

The bathroom was v. Clean and new, with lots of towels.

Breakfast was very simple, one piece of everything, with a small selection of continental. I feel it would be better with a 'buffet service' work men use this a lot and these guys need filling up :)

The staff greet you with a warm smile.

Being on the sea front is a very much added bonus! Walking out into sea breeze is very welcome as it can be hot in the hotel.

I will return!

MC

We arrived at the hotel and parked easily outside the hotel on the road, this is pay and display parking, however in winter this is £1.50 for the day and no need to pay between 4pm and 10am. We were allocated our rooms and this seemed like a quick easy process with minimal paperwork to be filled out.

Our room was 203, on the second floor accessible by a lift. We had a sea view and a fair sized room with a modern LCD TV with free view channels. Large wardrobes and tea, coffee facilities. Hairdryer, but I recommend the ladies to take their own.

The bed was two fair sized singles pushed together with a poorly fitting sheet. The beds were hard and the edges of the beds including the centre section, was made up of extremely uncomfortable and hard tubing. In my opinion they should have just purchased a kingside bed. I did make an effort to cuddle up to my wife, however the beds decided to part so retuned to my single of the bed.

The bathroom should be well equipped however they seem to have purchased a fancy shower that did not work. The shower had a main shower head and a secondary standard shower head on shower hose. The main head trickled water out and the smaller never worked. The pressure was too poor to actually have a decent shower. They need to repair the showers and install a water pump to pick up the pressure, as there wasn't any. There was a lovely wall feature which I believe should be for a hand towel, we didn't have one for our stay.

Room was warm all,the time and we spent two nights in february sleeping with the sash window open all night, it was lovely to hear the sea while drifting off to sleep.

Breakfast, there is a large fish tank of which looks like it has never been cleaned out, very green, no filter and pump. Fish looked sorry for them selves. Breakfast order was taken eventually after asking someone three times in a space of half an hour, when it arrived it came out on an eight inch plate, which just looked too small for what it was suppose to be presenting. I have no idea what they did to the tomatoes but they tasted horrible.

We were going to originally eat in the restaurant however you have to make a booking and choice of your food before 5pm, so we missed out. However recent reviews seem to suggest we were better to miss it. Wetherspoons the palladium up the road is ideal forms reasonably cheap meal.

Thursday morning a coach pulled up outside at just after 8am and sounding like a run down overly noisy nuisance the idiot of a driver left the engine running for forty five minutes while waiting for guests at the hotel next door. Not the hotels fault but the windows do not keep, the noise out.

On the whole it was a £42 double room for the night, with an inadequate practically not present shower. If the shower had worked and i had not had breakfast it wouldn't have been too bad. There are many other places to stay and I wished now I had booked travel lodge as it was the same price.
