I can't say enough about the wonderful job Steve and Debbie do with Bryn Derwen. My wife and I stayed there in mid-October of 2006 and had a great experience.
To start off, the website is excellent, providing not only availability and prices, but also pictures of each of the rooms that are available (each room is different, so you get to literally see your options). The rates were very reasonable, made even more so by Steve giving us the "mid-week reservation so third night is free" deal completely unsolicited by us. Even paying for the third night, it still would have been reasonable.
Once there, Bryn Derwen itself is pretty. It is a former Victorian mansion that has been a B&B in Llandudno for decades, most recently owned by Steve and Debbie. We stayed in Room #3 and it was large and had an adequately comfortable bed. The rooms were quite clean and very well-maintained, especially given the age of the house.
The location is perfect. It is a 2 minute walk to the tram station up to the Great Orme, and only a 5-10 minute walk to the promenade and beach of Llandudno. There were several great restaurants within a five minute walk as well. We HIGHLY recommend Number 1's Bistro (ate there two of three nights).
Steve and Debbie were wonderful, answering any questions and giving us helpful suggestions.
Also, if you have not been to northern Wales, you should definitely go. There are half a dozen large castles for touring within an hour drive, some of which (Conwy, Caernarfon, Beaumaris) are World Heritage Sites and breathtaking. The Great Orme is a massive headland/peninsula just west of Llandudno that provides good hiking and views of the Irish Sea. There's also a Bronze-Age copper mine that pretty cool to visit. Snowdonia National Park is just to the south and is ruggedly beautiful. Unfortunately, we went in October. While we got two nice days, that was a rarity for northern Wales in October. Would recommend summer to fully experience the area. Still, next to no crowds in the fall!
Bottom line, if you are going to northern Wales, stay at Bryn Derwen!!
