The County Hotel was our centre for the Shearings “Llandudno and North Wales” tour. Our 4 night stay there was a real pleasure throughout.

The hotel is located on the long promenade in Llandudno, with superb sea views, and a clean and smart frontage. The town is a good 20 minute walk away, albeit a very easy, pleasant one along the broad, flat promenade (buses and taxis are available at reasonable rates). Late booking meant that only the sea view rooms were available, but it was worth paying the extra. Our room was comfortable and immaculately maintained throughout our stay.

I don’t think we’ve ever come across hotel staff who are as friendly and genuinely concerned for our welfare. Nothing was too much trouble. Together with the well laid out and tastefully decorated public rooms, the overall effect is of a hotel with a delightful “atmosphere” – an elusive quality often claimed but rarely achieved.

The food was generally very good indeed - with the exception, surprising for Wales, of the roast lamb, which was rather ordinary! The restaurant service was exemplary, and it was a pleasure to eat there in such pleasant surroundings with a delightful sea view.

We tried the entertainment on a couple of evenings. Harry Modo is a formidable entertainer, with a strong personality and vast repertoire of magic, song, dance and comedy (often mixed together!) To our taste, though, his comic material leans rather too heavily on the frailties of older people.

All in all, though: highly recommended, a great place to stay.

We had a great 5 day break at the County hotel made more special by Lorne our driver who knew every inch of Wales, thus made it an action packed break, god bless him, Shearings need to hang on to this guy! , the food was good and plentyful, , room clean and adequate, the reception could not have been more helpfull, they are brill. Plus being a retired cook I could`nt resist having a sneaky peek into the kitchen one night and am happy to reveal that it was was SQUEAKY CLEAN!!, So take no notice of the SADDOS and go have a great break, P.S
The staff are NOT all Europeans and the ones that are speak very good english and are most polite.

Stayed there 4 nights on a Shearings break. Our room, 216, was all right, nothing wrong. I found the hotel clean, staff friendly and attentive. The food was good and the waiting staff, albeit foreign, spoke good English, were pleasant and extremely efficient. Yes I guess if I looked closely I could have found faults. My main complaint, as a smoker, (I know) was that smokers were third class citizens. The smoking area was in the rear car park, under a overhang. Standing only. In front of the hotel one could smoke, 2 benches, but not under cover. Please have a covered, seated area??/ You get what you pay for at Shearings Hotels. One night the fish course was trout!!! What more can one ask for. If you need a snack for lunch, or a sandwich for a journey, go to tha Ham Bone in the road at the side of the Hotel. Great food and value for money.

We've just spent Easter at The County, there were 4 of us and we all had a lovely time, the rooms were nice, the food was excellent, the staff couldn't seem to do enough for you, I would recommend it definitely, just one little draw back in that it's quite a way out of town but if you come out of the hotel, turn right, find the Co-op store in front of you, there's a bus stop near there and it's the number 12., takes you up into the town and it's a lovely walk back then on the promenade to work up your appetite for dinner. Although the hotel was full it wasn't noisy, I never even needed my ear plugs, which is always a must when I stay anywhere but my own house!!

having read some of the reviews on tripadviser,i went with a little aprehesion.on arriving we were to early to book in.we were allowed to leave our car in the car park whilst we visited the town.on booking in it was obvious that the staff where well trained.we paid a little extra for our room so that we could have a sea view.the room was on the first floor, very spacious and very clean.the meals were good as was the service.the man on reception was quite a character very nice with all customers a real credit to shearings.if i could make one obsevation it would be the lack of choice on draught beers. ie one bitter one lager.there was plenty of other choice in bottled beer.so it is not a complaint.i and my wife had a very good three days there.

Guess what?went to another shearings hotel and liked it too!!! The County is old and has seen it's best days-i'm sure we can all agree on that ,but for goodness sake you gets what you pays for.I get fed up to the back teeth having to defend Shearings, from all the doom merchants who take advantage of the fantastically low rates then procede to rubbish the hotels. My partner and me have just spent a lovely two night stay at the County hotel, in Llandudno. The weather was appalling(let's blame shearings for that,eh?) .The staff could not have been more helpful or courtious, the food was a nice pleasant surprise(it's obvious that the chef,Mr Jones, takes an interest),it was fresh, tasty and plentifull, and the bread n butter pud was fab!. The waiter we had was Lukas,a Slovac. This gentleman could not have been more polite or helpful,if his life depended on it.We complained about the room(sea view)being a little cool, they provided a heater. We mentioned that the water was'nt draining from the sink, this was fixed quickly.Full marks to the reception staff. The entertainment always struggles to reach any kind of heights at these hotels but like us,you are not forced to stay and endure it! one plus was that i won £20 at the bingo(get in!).We actually went into, what is quite a boring town centre and spent a very pleasant, cheap booze filled night, people watching in Wetherspoons!!! Some people will look for things to critisize Shearings for.I say don't go,if all you want to do is moan about them. What sort of holiday is that? We shall continue to enjoy their cheap rates and warm, friendly hospitality.Until next time readers, bye bye.
