“Back to the County”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2013

We booked a basic three night break here with a sea view and parking. We found the County excellent value for money and a bargain, given the price we paid. Reception staff are really first rate and helpful and courteous to everyone. Our room was basic, but clean and had all we needed. The food is not cordon bleu, but still very good and we thought the breakfasts were very good indeed, as is the waitress service. We would recommend booking parking at £5 a night, because Llandudno is a busy resort and free parking close to the hotel is almost impossible to find.

Room Tip: Sea view and second or third floor. Avoid basement like the plague.

Stayed at this hotel on a coach trip with Shearings. We booked a sea view room and the view from the great orme to the little orme was beautiful.
The hotel and our room were spotless. The waitress service in the dinning room (overlooking the sea ) was better than a lot of restaurants we have eaten in. Most attentive and the food was of a high standard with plenty of choice.
The entertainment was good especially the Bee Gees tribute band.
A big thank you to the general manager and all his political and helpful staff.
Only thing missing...Wi-Fi.

Room Tip: Well worth that little extra for the sea view. On the third floor there was no noise at all.

Having checked the reviews for both Shearings hotels in Llandudno at the time the County was the better so booked a 3 night self-drive weekend break and upgraded to a sea view room which was on the first floor.
The room had undergone a refurb and looked the same as other Shearings Hotel rooms that have been upgraded. It was a big room with a very large bay window with coffee table and easy chairs to sit and admire the views accross the bay. Parking is free along the prom and managed to get a nearby parking space every day.
It's about a 15 min walk into town and to the Great Orm Tramway.
There was entertainment every night which was not really our thing, more suited to the more mature guests.
The food was good and portions generous, especially the cheese and biscuits.
Our waitress Anna looked after us very well.
Plenty to see and do in the surrounding area if you are doing a self drive holiday.

This hotel is located at the quiet end of the bay. At first sight it looks much the same as the others, inside it has some nice lounges and the dining room is impressive (decent spaces between the tables).
The room we booked was a Superior one and had excellent views from the two bay windows, one in front ,one at the side, although the bathroom was very tiny. The room was kept spotlessly clean.
The meals were very tasty and the menu gave a good selection, although the breakfasts were rather small. Or waitress (Anna) was very friendly and efficient, as were most of the staff.
The entertainment was a good quality with the resident duo being well backed up.
As usual with Shearings the hotel was run very efficiently, and we very much enjoyed our short break there, even the weather turned out to be mostly sunny which helped a lot.

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and sunny

The County is in a lovely position on the Promenade and we loved the views from our top floor room (we had paid extra for sea view). Room was small as was the bathroom but both were clean, fresh and comfortable and perfectly adequate for a short stay - view was lovely but only when standing up as window set too high to see when sitting or lying in bed. Plenty of choice for both breakfast and dinner so always managed to find food we enjoyed and special mention must go to Anna our waitress, very efficient and pleasant. Entertainment wasn't to our taste but we were fine sitting in the upstairs bar. We enjoyed the included trips out and really enjoyed the optional trip with Wilson's minibus up the Great Orme and tour in and around Llandudno made special by William the driver's local knowledge and dare I say his jokes? Mark our Shearing's driver was very professional and efficient. All in all a very good value break.

This is the best Shearings Hotel we have stayed at in terms of service, comfort and cleanliness. We had an upgraded room and it was well worth the extra. The food was well presented but as with all Shearings hotels the evening meal menus are not very appetising - adequate but not appetising. There is entertainment every night which we do not care to take part in and in this hotel the ballroom is downstairs and doesn't impinge on other areas of the hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: An upgraded room with a sea view is a good option

This was a late booking made by my wife and I so firstly I have to comment on the excellent value. We have been on half a dozen or so Shearings holidays and this was arguably the best hotel we have stayed in so far. We initially had concerns about our room being so close to Reception but at no time were we disturbed by noise.
Very pleased that we had a separate toilet and bathroom. However, not very impressed by the flimsy folding screen which served as the bathroom door but did not matter as we are husband and wife! We found all the hotel staff helpful and friendly. The entertainment was good quality and enjoyable - not sameish or songs from the War.
Pleasant change to have tables for 2 in the restaurant rather than having to share with strangers if not wished.
Several of our friends have visited both the County and Marine hotels. OK so the County is further from the town but we really enjoyed our stay. Reasons for not awarding 5 stars: net curtain in our bedroom had a 4" horizontal tear, a shower attachment on the bath would be handy when washing hair, no Do not Disturb signs and often the vegetables accompanying dinner were tasteless - indeed one evening our table and several surrounding ones played a quiz to identify the vegetable (carrot, swede, butternut squash or sweet potato), we were unable to find the correct answer., Also discovered a radiator was on full when the temperature (outside) was 20 degrees!

Room Tip: Several of our coach party were not very happy at being allocated basement rooms although personally...

Dear BigglesBeds

Many Thanks for your review I am glad you enjoyed your stay in room 127. The bathroom door has already been replaced and the net curtain must have been because I have just checked and I can't find any tear. Thanks again for all your observations.
