“Afternoon Tea, the way it should be done, now and then”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2013

There are times when it's nice to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, just for a couple of hours and enjoy a little treat, such as afternoon tea, in pleasant surroundings. This afternoon's trip to Bodysgallen Hall provided such a treat. We chose to sit by an impressive fireplace in the drawing room. The service was very good and unobtrusive. The tea, sandwiches and assortment of cakes, all high quality and plentiful. We didn't consider the price (£16.50 per head) unreasonable, you are, after all, paying as much for the experience as the food, though we did feel that perhaps it was a little 'sugar heavy' with many more cakes than we would have chosen for ourselves, delicious though they were. An alternative, more savoury selection might be something worth considering by the hotel as an alternative for those with differing dietary requirements.

The hotel and its well-kept gardens are beautiful. Where we took tea dates from 1620 and we enjoyed looking around. We will certainly revisit, perhaps in the Spring and look forward to further exploring the grounds and gardens.

We stayed one night at Bodysgallen and had a lovely visit. Our cottage was very peaceful and overlooked sheep grazing in our front pasture. The gardens are GORGEOUS! Make sure you explore all of the nooks and crannies in the garden. So many pretty flowers and plants to take in. Also, the view from the top of the gardens looking toward Conwy Castle is amazing. The hotel is very formal and quiet. I enjoyed walking around all of the different levels and common rooms in the main mansion. We weren't wowed by the food, but overall a very nice stay in the Welsh countryside.

Had a lovely stay at this hotel. Stayed in a room at the top of the house with views towards Conwy. Beds and room was good, bathroom was large but needed updating. Dinner was very good in the restaurant with great choices. Garden and outside areas are fabulous and worth exploring. Good experience overall

The price of a stay is not for the faint hearted, but knowing that in advance, this was probably the best hotel experience I've had in 40 years.
Pineapple Cottage was delightful, although the different floor levels can catch you out. The Spa was excellent, with a lovely big pool at the right temperature.
The staff at the hotel were excellent, especially the Eastern Europeans, who were a delight to meet and chat to. Food in both the Bistro and the Restaurant was tasty and well presented.
The views are stunning, and the gardens and grounds lovely.
Go on, spoil yourself!

We live locally but had never been to Bodysgallen so when we had a very generous voucher as a Christmas present we were more than pleased but I'm afraid it did not live up to expectations. We went on a Friday evening In August for Dinner. When we got there we were almost pounced on by a wine waiter to take our drinks order before we had even sat down and had time to think !
The Lounge area was deserted, cold and not welcoming. We did have very nice Canapés with our drinks and an assortment of nuts, crisps etc. We were given the menu and found the prices high to say the least ! We had the choice of the Summer Menu or A La Carte . The Summer menu was almost £40 a head for 3 courses and there was only a choice of 2 meals for each course ( one of the Dessert choices being Ice Cream ! ) I chose to have a main meal from the A.L.C menu and had to pay an extra £10 !
We were shown the Dining Room and there was only 1other couple there! Where was everyone else at the height of Summer ! The service was very formal and stilted but the Staff were pleasant. The food on the other hand was disappointing. The portions were miniscule and very bland. My Lamb was tasteless and my plate empty after a very few mouthfuls ! !
We returned to the Lounge and again not a soul in sight. We had coffee and made a hasty retreat, and to make matters worse we had to pay almost £30 on top of our voucher ! !
The only saving grace about Bodysgallen is the setting. It is beautiful and we had a table by the window with lovely views of the gardens and Conwy Castle in the distance.
I would add that there was a Belgian Coach party in the room next the Dining room to us but if they were not there there would have been 4 of us dining which I find very strange in a place such as this. We will not be returning !

Just returned from a week at Bodysgallen Hall.We stay here at least twice a year. Why you may well ask.The reasons are....Restaurant food in the main dining room (not Hotel food),spot on housekeeping, friendly staff, wonderful gardens to explore and a superb large indoor pool.Ten out of ten.

Beautiful gardens include a rare 17th century parterre of box hedges filled with sweet-scented herbs, a rockery with a cascade, a walled rose garden, and several follies. The Dining Room in the main hall has been awarded three rosettes for fine dining by the AA - the only restaurant in Llandudno to be awarded such - and offers imaginative meals prepared from fresh local produce and complemented by fine wine, and overlooks the gardens and has been recognised as one of the best places for Sunday Lunch in the United Kingdom by The Observer newspaper. The Spa is approached by a short walk through the garden or by a private road.
