“Does not live up to its reputation.”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

Food was disappointing. The muscles with snails and frogs legs were tasteless and overpriced for what it was - I was still hungry. The muscles were also overcooked. My friend's calamari was undercooked and bland, the squid ink rice was disappointing, also.

“Literally the best restaurant in Eastboune”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

The Belgian Cafe is my most favourite haunt and a must for anyone who appreciates great seafood and mussels as well as good quality beer!

They offer 50 ways to enjoy Moules Frites and every single one I have tried is devine, particularly the Honey Mustard version.

The range of Belgian beers is incredible and there are some delicious ones on offer. I would reccommend the Golden Carolus, Delirium dark, Grottenbier and of course Kwak.

The Manager is incredibly friendly and chatty and remembers you even if you havent returned for months! On our last visit we given some olives and nibbles, on the house.

Great staff, always friendly, great food, great beer & wine - what more could you want.

“Do you have anything on the menu?”
Reviewed May 5, 2013 via mobile

It was quiet when we went despite it being a weekend. I spent some time with the waiter asking for a beer from the extensive menu only to be told they didnt have it in stock, this went on for some time until i found one they did have. The food itself was average to poor, the soup for starters was bland and unseasoned. The steak was very overcooked and tough and the stew was extremely salty with tough beef. The potato to go with the stew was also bland and tasteless. When ordering schnapps after the meal we played the same game as with the beer, trying to find the ones on the menu they hadnt run out of! The waiting staff were pleasant enough but could have looked smarter, one of the waitresses was wearing trainers... It was also quite expensive. Im sure there are better places in Eastboure.

Thank you for your recent review, we are sorry your dining experience did not meet your expectation on this occasion. We pride ourselves on our excellent food and service and currently hold a recognised local award as 'Eastbourne's Best Restaurant'. We have an extensive menu and on occasions some dishes are temporarily unavailable due to demand, seasonal variations and market prices, which is not uncommon in the restaurant trade. Our uniform policy reflects our casual and relaxed cafe/bar environment.

“Good theme shame about the ambience”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

This is ideally located on the Eastbourne seafront and maybe that is the reason the service and the food has become a bit on the lax side.
