Excellent location and really helpful staff, but that's all. The hotel is a dump to say the least. The room was really filthy, it seemed as if it simply had not been cleaned after the last guest apart from the fresh linen. There were spiderwebs in all corners and dust everywhere but the bathroom was the worst: the tiles had surely not been cleaned thoroughly for weeks, there was mould and scale around the bath and hairs and dirt on the floor. At the breakfast, the crockery was so disgusting that you didn't want to use it. It looked like plates and glasses had only quickly been rinsed with cold water. This hotel is simply not recommendable and it definitely does not live up to its 4 stars!

DO NOT STAY HERE!! How it has 4 stars I do not know. When I was given the key to my room and it hadn't been cleaned (scum - really bad scum in the bath) and the bed was unmade I hoped it was just an error but my son's room had someone elses belongings as they had moved a guest without her knowledge. The place was filthy, our rooms not serviced at all throughout the whole stay, even though we complained. We were just told that staff (who were under age) were being trained next week - no apology. Breakfast is a shambles and I found a previous guests dirty sock by the bed!! There is thick hair in all the bathrooms - disgusting! How they have the cheek to run this place as is I am amazed they have any custom at all. Stay at the travel lodge down the road - We stayed there last year and while basic, its clean, friendly and nearly half the price!!

We stayed only the one night at The Pier Hotel, we paid £54 for a double room with see view and although it wasnt the best hotel we have used, it was ok. Room was basic, could do with a new carpet but was clean and bed was comfortable. I would recommend this hotel for a short stay one or two nights, good value for money and the English breakfast was good. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Absolute bargain - at the end of the day you do get what you pay for so don't pay too much attention to the negative comments on here. And for a £36 night stay (incl full English), you can't complain! The room was a good size, clean and tidy and had full facilities (TV with freeview, tea/coffee, extra bedding, comfy bed). We had a pier view (Great location) and was able to park right outside the hotel (free parking 6pm - 8am so didn't have to pay). Also had a really warm welcome from the reception lady - very friendly and helpful!

Negative points:
- Shower works fine but did dribble down the wall.
- There was a floodlight right outside our huge sash windows which stayed on all night and the light did shine through the edge of the black out curtains.

Our radiator didnt work and was told it had been fixed before we went out that night when we came back our room was like a freezer spent the night in my jumper as reception closed at 9!

The taps in the bathroom leaked! There was no signs on the taps to show which was hot and which was cold!

The rooms looked like somethink my greatgrandmother would of lived in.

Only good thing was we had hot chocolate in our room and biscuits!!

A receptionist who was busy biting her nails gave us our room key. There was laundry stacked in the hallway and the lights were strung with cobwebs. Our room was basic with no phone or intercom and the bed headboard was thick with dust. The duvet cover was stained and inside out - had it been changed after the last guest ? We couldn't tell. We paid extra for a seaview room but were actually looking straight into the pier entrance which was busy and fully illuminated until 3am.The hoel had a karaoke bar that was full on until 1pm. Breakfast was basic and tea and coffe were made at 7.30pm and left to stand in. It was an exhausting experience. Overall ? ATROCIOUS.

The room was cheap. The location was good, right on the sea front by the pier. We should have known it was going to be a bad choice. We thought, "It's only one night, we can put up with one night, right? It's just one night..."

Wrong.

The room was a decent size, twin beds. The room was, clean, overall but the carpets looked like someone had spilt bleach over them. We had a room at the back that overooked the barbed wire encrusted back yard. The window had been left open and there were about 10 flies flying around the room. We blasted them with hairspray and wafted them out of the window. We came back to sleep and the room was really stuffy, but too noisy if we had the window open. I got about 2 hrs sleep that night and could feel things crawling on me. My friend woke up with insect bites. The bed covers had black spots on them. The shower was really low pressure because most of the water was coming out of a leak in the pipe.

Apparently the breakfast was good. I wouldn't know as I left at 7am....

The staff were nice though, but I still wouldn't recommend to stay there.
