Pier Hotel
Ranked #58 of 75 Eastbourne B&B and Inns
Reviewed February 23, 2013

Our room was large, the bed was comfortable and the curtains were top quality. The rest of the room, however, was seriously tired. Peeling wallpaper and a grubby carpet, secondery double-glazing which rattled all night and notices about drugs just didn't make for a good experience.

When we had registered we were told that breakfast would include yogurts and fresh fruit. Melon, prunes or grapefruit we thought. But no yogurts and some tired looking bananas, oranges and apples. Also we were puzzled by the forks on the table-it wasn't as if we had been offered any cooked food.

So,we won't be returning to the Pier and we won't be recommending it either.

Room Tip: Don't go there!

We just stayed 2 nights in this hotel, from the reviews we had no great expectations.
we were pleasantly suprised. The lad on reception was very helpful and welcoming.
The room we stayed in was on the 2nd floor with sea view. The room was clean, Well stocked with tea and coffee, (and buscuits too). The place is on the shabby side, but if you want somewhere with a good location and very reasonable price then its worth it.
Dont expect luxury at this price but with a nice clean bed and bathroom what more do you need.
We liked the breakfast, looking forward to returning soon.

I stayed 3 nights. My single room had a broken shower, was tiny (you could not swing a cat round it), crammed full of old furniture and had a 'do not take drugs' notice on the door - a welcome touch (not)!! I complained and was moved to a twin room on the top floor - OK except lift was out of order and wifi did not work so far from reception. This is a tired old seaside hotel done up in the public areas and in some rooms, but still very much down at heel. Avoid! There are much better places to go to and almost as cheap.

I stayed 2 nights at the hotel with a party of friends. No ask was too much and the staff were friendly and welcoming.
My room was a single room which was plenty spacious enough for me and all my stuff, plenty of storage and a dressing table to sit at to get ready. The ensuite bathroom was spacious and for once a shower in a hotel that was hot and powerful (a rarity in most establishments to get both!)
My single bed was comfy and not a silly narrow bed and all the linen clean and crisp including towels.
As you'd expect complimentary tea and coffee and free soap and shampoo was a nice touch. Nice complimentary touches also included a free view tv and free wifi.
Overall the hotel was clean, tidy and what you expect for the rating but the highlight was the cheerful and helpful staff who are the best asset to the hotel making you feel like you can relax and enjoy your time away even on a wet, windy and cold weekend in Eastbourne
Would highly recommend and would live to return in future. :)

Stayed for 2 nights, after Boxing day, in a room with a large 4 poster bed, which was fun. The curtains didn't close around the sides which was a shame! The hotel is under new management and there was no noisy club in the basement or across the road on the pier at that time. There was soap in the bathroom and other toiletries. The radiator gets 10/10 for response to the controls. There was slight noise from other rooms as this is an old building with no sound proofing, so you can hear toilets flushing! Once everyone is asleep it's fine. First breakfast was served by Nathan, who'd been on the desk the night before, and featured 2 eggs and 2 rashers of bacon. Next morning was a rather unfriendly woman who said that one of each was normal, as she served the food. Some hope for this place if they all cheer up and smile at their guests. But is was quite cheap so I guess you get what you pay for. I wouldn't stay there again.

Room Tip: If you get our room with a fire door then check that it is actually closed! It wasn't but Nathan...

We booked this room via laterooms.com with a huge discount. The location of the hotel is perfect, directly opposite the pier. The hotel is not 4 star standard - it is old fashioned inside. However, the room was clean and of an adequate size. Fine for a cheap bed for the night but definitely not for a special occasion. Amy and Amy

We stayed at the Pier Hotel, Eastbourne 9th and 10th November 2012. This hotel is under new management and Nathan and his team are really making a difference after only a few weeks in their care. The rooms were clean and tidy with lovely crisp white sheets and towels. Bring your own soap though but shampoo is provided. The breakfast each morning was lovely, hot and plentiful. We had a seaview room which afforded us a lovely view of the pier and sea. All in all would thoroughly recommend this hotel if you want a reasonable no frills stay.

Room Tip: rooms at the back are quieter but the seaview rooms have the edge for the views alone
