“AWFUL!!! STAY AT YOUR PERIL”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2012

If i could have rated this a zero instead of a 1, would have done. I have stayed with my elderly mother at this hotel for the past 8 years and this year was tby far the worst. It has been going downhill every year for the last 3 years but this surpassed everything. Despite numerous complaints at the time of my stay about normal expectations particularly about the state of the room, service, cleaning - where else do you know that you have to use domestic, very hard, kitchen roll because they do not have any toilet roll to give you, noise, rudeness, and the very worst scenario, noone including the director of the Lions Hotels, even acknowledges let alone sort out your complaints as is my experience. Avoid this Lion hotel at all costs - it is not worth a penny of your money. I complained at the time on numerous occasions and on return have written twice, once by special delivery, to the Director and the Manager of this hotel but they quite obviously don't care about complaints, because I have had no reply.

Room Tip: Do not stay here!

In an attempt to be balanced the check-in was friendly and the receptionist (Maria) was helpful. The cooked breakfast was fine though the orange juice was terrible.

HOWEVER that is all that was positive.
1. The room was well below average in terms of decoration - e.g. hole in the bedroom wall
2. The water stopped running midway through a shower and would not restart
3. The telephone in room did not work so I could not call reception for help to repair the shower
4. I ended up using the tiny sink in bathroom to finish the shower

It took over an hour and half to organise a move to a different room. I ended up packing and moving our bags myself to the new room from the 2nd to the 4th floor.

On having a shower the following morning while there was water it was cold - so I started the day with a cold shower.

We were staying overnight to attend a anniversary buffet - this was the worst buffet we have EVER had.

I cannot emphasie enough (based on our experience) you should AVOID this hotel at all costs.

Room Tip: The best way to get a good room is stay in a DIFFERENT hotel.

Booked 6.30 on evening of stay, and consequently very good value last minute deal.As other reviews have said it is a little like going back in time with the old fashioned double gated lift and decor. Reception staff very welcoming and helpful.Had a top floor room with sea view, only complaint would be that the shower was a bit weak and it took a fair while to get hot (may be because on top floor?) otherwise room very clean, nice to get a 4ft bed in a single room.
Breakfast very good and freshly cooked.

The Hotel is situated on the sea front and very good for getting around, not far from main town center and other entertainments
.Eastbourne has a lovely sea front which is very well maintained and the hotels are kept well decorated.
The hotel is AA 3 star and is well situated, the bedrooms are good to average depending which room you have, rooms on the front have sea views but can be noisy. the food is well presented and the service is above average,
The breakfast offers a good selection and dinner is 4 coarse with a choice, food well prepared

Room Tip: The Hotel is not far from Devonshire Park were LTA International tournements are held and good deals...

The Chatsworth was like walking back in time, a bit tired in places decor wise. The room was very functional but small and suited our needs. The view was towards the pier which was nice. The only bug bear was the sink was blocked and took an age to flow away,we reported it to the receptionist when we arrived and it still wasn't sorted when we left.

Room Tip: We had a front/side room with a nice view of the pier. Passing loud drunks in the street can be dist...

A waring to anyone even thinking about booking a room here, don't. The management should be paying YOU £90 a night to stay in this hotel. I stayed here recently, and ended up demanding a refund after such an awful experiance. The hotel room i stayed in was a sea view room, and the view was the only decent thing about the place. The bedroom itself was dreadful, i have stayed in hotel rooms all over the world and love a bit of rustic charm, but this place was in a time warp. I had towels in the bathroom with holes in, wallpaper peeling off the walls, stained bedsheets, no hot water, mouldy bathroom with a shower that was like a dripping tap, the bathroom was riddled with silver fish, curtains that were not wide enough for the window so i had constant daylight, painted over light bulbs as to not have glare on the tv, the bedside tables had stains on. The other couple in my party had the room next door to me and had water coming in their ceiling from the bedroom above. It appears little work has been done over the decades to this hotel, it smells like an old peoples home. The continental breakfast was extreamly minimal with a selection of 4 yogurts, no ham, no salmon, barely anything that was advertised on the menu. The place is totally unfit for guests, and should be closed down or gutted. An un-modern, awful hotel, with a manager with no manners and will try his hardest not to give you a refund.

Room Tip: There are no good rooms, the hotel hasn't been changed since the 1970's.
