We stayed at Cumberland for one night. We asked for a sea view room, and were offered to see the room first. We declined, as we thought it should be fine right? However, on going into our room, we were so disappointed and I immediately wanted to leave! Room was smaller than we had expected and very dated - the furniture has been varnished a hundred times and had flaked off in places, the carpet was marked and it just felt old! Not at all what we are used to. It was however very clean, and the view of the sea was lovely, with access to a large shared balcony. That was the down side as it was a hot night, and there was no window, just the french door which opened onto a shared balcony - we risked it and kept it open all night, hoping there were no madmen in the neighbouring rooms! We had dinner and it was very good - a little quiet and awkward, some low background music would have helped, but the food was excellent and the staff were very attentive, and there was no waiting around for the food. We slept well and the bed was comfy, and I suppose the room grew on us in the end. Breakfast was ok, a little disappointing with the buffet as you have to wait to be served, which seemed unnecessary, and it was not great quality. But again the service was very good and quick. Okay for a quick break away. Staff great, just a real shame about the room - a basic update would do it the world of good.

We were to have been booked into The Imperial but ended up in The Cumberland. A very good substitute. Excellent food, good friendly service, clean rooms. The room we had overlooked a parking and garden area at the back in which my wife saw an urban fox! It's centrally placed.
Bar prices were reasonable, in fact lower than many pubs in the town that I live. I would whole heartedly recommend this hotel

I have stayed at this hotel for 3 dance weekends now, and really can't fault it for the price. The little ballroom is lovely, the restaurant is nicely set out, the food of good quality with excellent service (no hanging around between courses). The rooms are of a reasonable size with comfy beds, flat screen TV, hairdryer etc. The decor is a little bit old fashioned , and a little bit faded but perfectly suits the style of the building. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the staff were all just great. A special mention has to go to our bar lady, Sharon who looked after us all weekend like we were family, making sure we had a constant supply of jugs of ice water.

We went for the weekend with a groop and had a lovlely time. The rooms were very dated but very clean. The bath in our room was very short, so you had to sit rather than lay down. This was OK as we also had a shower. We had a sea facing room with a balcony, as the weather was so good we made use of this. The staff were so friendly and always helpful.
I would recomend this hotel.

Stayed here in March for 4 nights as part of a tour of area Excellent welcome. Yes the hotel may be dated but our sea facing room was clean and adequate. Wish bath had screen instead of shower curtain. Food was good English fare, well presented and served by very charming staff. There was themed entertainment each evening hosted by Philip, a fantastic host. Perhaps geared a bit too much to the line dancers who were staying but good nonethe less. This is a 4 star hotel hiding in a 2 star, just needs updating.

Room Tip: Ask for sea facing room although our windows were small!
