“Very nice hotel”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

We booked this hotel for the bank holiday wekend, a party of 6 adults. We drove down and parked the car down a side street, which cost £1 a day, zone S. We arrived a bit early but were able to book into our room. We were in 229 - no sea view alas but the room was very clean, lovely big bathroom with Pecksniff goodies and lovely fluffy cotton towels and flannels. Bed was pretty comfy - a bit on the bouncy side, a nice new telly and tea/coffee making facitltites. The staff were all helpful and we ate in the restaurant, which was pretty good value for a 3 course meal (£23). The dining room was big and spacious and the staff very helpful. Breakfast was really nice with a choice of cereals, fruit, cake and of course, a full english breakfast (really nice bacon, not fatty like some places, hash browns, sausages, eggs ,tomatoes, mushrooms and beans. There is a bar which was nice - not too crowded and reasonable bar prices.
The hotel was opposite the bandstand and 5 mins walk from the pier. The main shopping area was within walking distance as well - it is in a good location.
All in all, a very nice stay, good food, a nice atmoshphere and pleasat staff. Would stay here again if visiting Eastbourne.

Room Tip: We were in 229, our friends above us in 329 and 429. Had a view of stairs and bricks but we were no...

We now return every year to this beautul hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary for a couple of days. We spent our honeymoon here 32 years ago. Its a very peaceful hotel with lovely surroundings and exceptionally friendly staff. We always book a pleasant seaview room with panoramic views over the sea, bandstand and pier. We had room service for a luxury breakfast and the food was of the highest standard. The rooms are spotlessly clean and well appointed. We usually eat smaller meals so we dined in the smart bar overlooking the sea. The food here was delicious and very reasonably priced. We had a lovely surprise as a much appreciated bottle of champagne was placed in our room, such a nice touch.! We can thoroughly recommend visitors to Eastbourne to stay at the Cavendish and we hope that we will be able to stay at this lovely hotel for many more years to come.

Room Tip: Always book a seaview

room 108 is said to be a sea view but you mostly see the opposite hotel i booked two months in advance for my first wedding anniversary thinking i would get a really good room ( what i paid for)
but not quiet would have rather went to a premier inn.
the staff where polite what we seen but only stayed one night.
the whole hotel is very hot and when we walked into the room first thing we done was open a window. room service was quick and food was nice. breakfast was good wide range for everyone not very veggie options.

It was difficult reviewing this hotel as the hotel building, the bedrooms and bathrooms and the food were really lovely but the staff just completely ruined our experience. We stayed for 2 days and 1 night and were just really appalled by how rude and abrupt the staff were. Our food order was taken 5 times because the waiter wasn't listening to what we said, upon payment we asked to split the bill (over £100 for a large group of us) between two cards and were told 'why can't we put it on one card?'. At breakfast the waiter bellowed at us to wait to be seated although the rest of our group was already seated and we were joining them. The staff were slow, seemed constantly angry and just made us feel very on edge. Quite a pity as we ended up having dinner elsewhere and spending over £200 because we didn't want to be treated in a way which made us regret paying. On a positive note, the bedrooms were lovely - huge double bed! We were boiling though and found it difficult to sleep although the weather outside was chilly and our window was open and the heating was off - no idea how it was so hot!

Dined at this hotel. Food more suited to a cafe. Lukewarm soup, fish cake with two extra scoops of mashed potato. Beyond belief. Fruit salad and ice cream. This organisation needs to take a look at the wonderful selection of ready-made food available in most supermarkets. No wonder people take advantage of these meals and Dine In for a fraction of the cost. Portions small. Would not return.
