We have stayed 3 times in a year to visit relatives in the town. In summer the older rooms at the front were unbearably hot especially on the first night (no aircon), so ask the hotel to open windows ahead of your check-in to cool the room down. My partner stayed in spring in a room at the back and again too hot from the heating. Stayed in a newer room in December and the temperature was fine! The double rooms are a good size. The bedrooms are a bit faded at this point, although the reception rooms are in much better shape. Say hello to the lovely Italian waiter but avoid Mrs Grumpy of Scotland at the front desk. Will no doubt stay again, if somewhat reluctantly. Really should try somewhere else, but the devil you know is better than the devil you dont. Walking distance from rail station and town centre, and, of course, its on the front.
