You wouln't give this place a second glance from the outside, not the best restaurant frontage. The inside too is rustic and dusty around the edges. However, that said, the food is superb, drinks well priced and the service helpful. You need to book, always or expect to have a very long wait in the doorway as it's always busy (especially at weekends). The Sauvignon blanc is good at £13 a bottle and children are very welcome. The atmosphere plus the quality of the food will keep me coming back for more.

Most of my impressions echo other recent reviews. Push through the unpromising exterior and squeeze into your table, and you can enjoy some really well-prepared French peasant food with a gluggable and well-priced house wine.
My only caveat is that too many covers are crammed in and the place was full, so if you enjoy conversation with your food you will have to join the Lombard-effect shouting match going on around you!

We came here in January 2013 and were looking forward to a return visit. Unfortunately the starters (specials) were naff and so were the desserts. The main courses were tasty though, and the house wine reasonably priced although, bizarrely for a French style restaurant we could not buy wine by the pichet. A glass or a full bottle only. The actual premises is seedy (but that is French), and the staircase to the toilets dangerous. Goodness knows if they have planning permission for a steep staircase with such a narrow tread (I had to walk down backwards).

I have read great reviews about the food. As for me, I wouldn't be able to tell. My husband and I left the place after having been left standing in the doorway for 10 minutes by a waiter who took our name, mumbled something and disappeared. We had a reservation but it didn't make any difference. 2 other waitresses saw us but equally ignored us.
Word of advice to the owner : train your staff. Otherwise as good as your food can be you won't last long treating people like dogs in a doorway.

This is one of Eastbourne's little gems. It only has a small frontage and could easily be missed. However, it is always busy and you always need to book in advance, which shows it has built up a good reputation over the years.

The interior decor and atmosphere is typical of a French Bistro. The food was fantastic and is obviously prepared from scratch, featuring traditional French dishes. The pricing is amazing when you consider the quality of the food (£13.95 for 3 courses during the week) and the house wine is good quality and good value at £11 a bottle.

Would highly recommend a visit to this restaurant.
