This is a review of our evening at the Mo Mabo Mania restaurant on Saturday evening, 21st September. There were 18 of us celebrating my mother’s 80th birthday.
The restaurant was nice and the food was good. However, it was a very disappointing evening and probably need not have been so if the manager had been open with us about his problems at the outset and had acted like he cared more.
The waitresses were friendly and willing but did not seem to have experience of what to do- perhaps they had been called in as extra help for the night. The did not know what to do with the drinks and made a long muddle of it that eventually we wrote our food order out for them to save time. They also tipped a whole beer over one of us- that was a total accident but no apology or gesture from the manager. Made own order.
The first five or so meals arrived after over an hour of ordering. We had finished these well before the next few meals arrived and the remainder eventually came out 40 mins after the first.
We asked to speak to the manager. He came and listened, then said (I think) that one of the ovens was not working and said he could do no more than say that he was very sorry. Maybe I am wrong but he gave me the impression that he wanted to get the conversation over with asap and go. We did not say it then but actually no, you can do more than just say sorry.
We did not have time to stay for desserts.
If he had been up front with us at the beginning we might have been sympathetic, even though it was not our fault that they were unable to offer a proper service. He knew well in advance that we were coming. Instead, he chose to keep his head down and bluff his way through. Our level of disappointment could have been lessened.
