“BURLINGTON HOTEL, EASTBOURNE (Shearings)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2012

Just had Christmas at The Burlington, Eastbourne and I have nothing but praise for the staff there and the general organisation.

The staff are absolutely wonderful there, SO very friendly and helpful. From the moment we arrived, we were looked after.

MATT in the tea /coffee bar always found a few minutes in between serving customers to have a little chat with guests and make them feel at home. Also, helped any infirm, older guests.

MARK on the entertainment team was always friendly, good fun, jolly and extremely kindly too. He always found time to sit with guests for a friendly chat. MARK also has a fabulous singing voice and entertained us. Hope these two lads never leave, because they're so very friendly and fun loving and are a great asset to the hotel.

MATT the bar manager was always helpful and helped with anything and everything that needed doing.

RECEPTION STAFF were absolutely fantastic and nothing was ever too much trouble for them. I asked for some help in opening our window and they sent someone within five minutes. Also, my hubby left something behind when we left and they went out of their way to help find it for us ...and they did and are posting it to us.

REBECCA, our waitress was the most efficient girl ever. Always had a huge smile and greeting when we went to the dining room. She made meal times such a pleasure.

CATERING.....the food was absolutely first class, well cooked and well presented. Sooooo much wonderful food over the Christmas break.....so much attention to every single detail......excellent value for money.

ALL STAFF at the Burlington were so very polite and helpful and their main concern was always to be pleasing to the guests and make sure they enjoyed their stay.

All of this was due to an excellent GENERAL MANAGERESS, who "ran a good team". The MANAGERESS was always "hands on", helping out her staff when ever and if ever needed. She always made herself available if a guest needed to speak with her and was a lovely friendly lady.

In summary......excellent manageress, running an "excellent ship". Would I recommend a stay at the Burlington, YOU BET I WOULD ! You won't find nicer staff at any other hotel like you will at this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a front bedroom with sea view, these rooms are nice and big. The hotel rooms are nice and q...

A huge thank you to Pat C, for leaving such an amazing review for the Christmas Holidays. Pat C is so right when she says the team here are good, yes I am slightly biased, bit I know the team here at the Burlington do all they can to make our customers feel at home and they will always go that extra mile as pointed out by Pat. It was a great christmas for all staff and customers and we are delighted at how many guests have already rebooked for 2013. Thanks again Pat C and all the best for the New Year from everyone at the Burlington

We have just revisited the Bay Burlington and stayed in the same room as last time,
The bathroom still sloped to the sink but we have noticed that the sink had been changed,
The glass shelf was still loose and dangerous, and the loo was still on a tilt,
The tv needs to be updated to incorporate freeview and fixed to the wall to prevent tripping over it.
Apart from that We had a lovely anniversary weekend with Tinsel and Turkey and Mark Snow being his usual excellent self , the rest of the entertainment needs updating.
More staff should be available in the resturant as Adrianne had a difficult time keeping up.
Next time we go we will try for a seaview room.
It was also a pleasure to have a parking space allocated in the car park even though we had to pay for it.

A few days away with Shearings. Good value holiday. The bedroom could do with being spruced up and was a bit cold. The bathroom radiator never got warm even after being reported as not working. Restaurant service was excellent and food was good.

our stay at this hotel, was very nice! the room we stayed in was very basic standard room, very clean, butin some need of re-decoration, and the windows desperatly need maintaining, but over all it was a very pleasant stay very quiet in the rooms, no disturbance and we were on 3rd floor. the maids service was excellent, very pleasant to the guests. the food was excellent with 5 or 6 choices each day. the waiting staff work very hard to make sure everyone has what they want. the bar staff very friendly, especially mathew, the entertainer went all out mark snow, was excellent, the hotel are very lucky to have him( hes the only man i know that can multi-task successfully) ha ha. the reception staff were very helpful. everyone at the hotel was very pleasant and friendly and we would definatley stay there again, almost opposite the pier oin the front, fantastic views and plenty of shops just round the corner, a very delightful place, thanks everyone for making our stay happy ***** jackie burgess

Room Tip: 3rd floor very quiet

What a picture peggysue97!! Great review. Thanks for the all the staff you named, this does go a long way and as I have stated previously my team love to read the reviews and see their names in print. yes Mark can multi task, there is just no end to the mans talent. Lovely comments about the food and our chambermaids even get a mention, because these two departments are not seen front of house as much as the bar and reception teams they do get forgotten so these lovely comments will make our Housekeeping girls and our Chefs very happy. Thanks for taking the time to leave this wonderful review.

My wife and I together with my sister in law and her husband have just had a wonderful long weekend Turkey and Tinsel break at The Burlington Hotel in Eastbourne.
This hotel is situated on the seafront and overlooks the pier and beach. I would recommend that any one going there should book a room with a seaview as the view of the pier, gardens and beach is wonderful. Especially in the evenings when the pier is covered in lights and also in the mornings watching the sun come up.
Although the hotel is old (it dates back to the 1850's) and is a little dated you can see what an impressive building it has been and rooms are currently being refurbished.
We had a very large room on the third floor, the beds were fine and the bathroom had a shower over the bath and there was always plenty of hot water. The room came with tea and coffee making items and the towels were changed every day. There was a television in the room which just showed the main five channels and unfortunately the hotel does not have Wi Fi at the present time.
The food at breakfast was very good, a good variety of cereals and porridge followed by a full English. Evening meals also very good, with nice soups and on Saturday we had Christmas dinner and a very good beef meal on Sunday. Special mention must be given to our waitress Goscia who worked really hard and always had a smile and was very pleasant.
With 300 people there last weekend there was not enough seating or tables in the entertainment area but we found that with mainly elderly residences a number of people went to their rooms after bingo was played and seats then became available.
The resident host in the evenings Mark Snow who did the bingo, told jokes and sang was brilliant, very funny and great entertainment. The bar staff also came out from behind the bar and joined in with the entertainment to ensure that every one had a good time. It was a shame that Sunday was Marks night off as the entertainment was not quite so good.
The hotel is situated about a ten minute walk to Eastbournes town center which has a great number of shops and cafes / restaurants and the Arndale Shopping Mall had a wonderful selection of shops which would spoil any shopper.
A great weekend spent at a lovely hotel, we would love to return again soon.

what an amazing informative review from Brain of Canveyislan. Thank you. I know leaving a review can be time consuming but all reviews are greatly accepted. Goscia will be over the moon to read her name in the review and once again that man Mr Snow gets another mention. Always pleasing to read when a customer truly enjoys all we have to offer and better still when time is found to leave a great review. Look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel. As a point of interest wi-fi is more than likely being insatlled in 2013, I have asked Santa for it!
Thanks once again

My wife and I spent a turkey and tinsel weekend booked through our over 55s club. Our room was 124 on the first floor. It is in need of refurbishment eg, a very poor quality mattress, poor bathroom facilities wth a plastic sink circa 1980s and a small toilet at an impossible angle to go reminiscent of trying to go sitting on a doughnut, the tv was an early samung on a floor mount so low that you could not watch it in bed,the carpet needed a good clean. Plus points were the food which was excellent even if our waitress forgot to introduce herself and did not smile until it was time to go home and lashings of hot water. I feel that I must give a special mention to Mark Snow who kept the entertainment going on his own. I am afraid that this turkey and tinsel holiday with shearings was very unchristmassy and needs a total rethink. I can not for the life of me understand why the hotel does not close a room down at a time and refirbish it as to keep selling that room/holiday in that state makes bad customer relations instead of people wishing to book again or pass on recomendation to others. My wife and I understand fully that you only get what you pay for but we as world travellers expect certain standards that unfortunatley the great British public seem to put up with. Come on the Burlington and Shearings sort it all out and we will visit again.....

Room Tip: Go for the sea facing rooms and pay extra money standard rooms are of very poor quality.

Thank you Nick N for the review. As stated in previous reviews our bedroom reurbishemnt programme is on going and rooms are taken out of use due to refubishment being done. Our premier and superior rooms do offer a liitle more luxury and are well worth paying the supplement for. 2013 will see even more bedrooms being refubished and we are very proud of this even in these very difficult financlal times, Shearings Hotels are commited to making improvements. Please see other reviews left by customers who have have nothing but good things to say about the Turkey and Tinsel breaks.
Thanks again for taking the time to leave a review all are very much appreciated.

I would recommend Turkey and Tinsel at the Burlington to everyone. I went to support the residents I work for, in total there was 24 of us, 15 residents and 9 staff and the staff at the Burlington bent over backwards for us and made our break. The evening entertainment as great and we all had such fun.We would like to say a special Thank you to the bar staff ( Matt, Matthew and JC ) our waitress ( name not know ) and the girls on reception.
The only things that could be improved on is the main course and the main toilets could do with being up-dated but saying that it hasn't stopped us from booking for next year already.
Loved it and can not wait till next year.

Can I just start by saying to Jilly1968 and her group my bar team had such a great time during your stay they want to book you to come back next year!!!!!. This is a lovely review and it's a real pleasure to serve customers who come away with the intention of enjoying themselves as I know Jilly and her group did. Valid comment regarding the downstairs loos and both ladies and gents are due to be refurbished in Jan 2013. Our menus are consistant with all Bay hotels, however as stated in previous reviews if the menu does not cater to your needs simlpy come and have a chat with us and the team will do all they can to help. Thanks again for taking time out to leave the review.
