For the price I didn't expect plush surroundings, and that was the right expectation to have, as it turns out. The rooms are spacious and clean, but the decor is dated throughout - including in the communal areas and dining room. It reminded me more of a retirement home than a hotel, but as the manager/owner was keen to point out to me, they struggled to compete against the big chain hotels (he also proceeded to tell me in detail about the amount of wasted food).
My room was comfortable and the hotel is in a great location for the town centre and seafront. The staff in the dining room were very helpful and pleasant, but the owner/manager was decidedly downbeat - not quite the ray of sunshine the place really needed (it really needs a refresh, if only to brighten it up a bit, but I appreciate this costs money, and at £40 a night I doubt there's much in the kitty).
The main complaint was the breakfast. Now I'm no Mr. Greedy, nor do I waste food from a breakfast buffet, but even a supermodel would probably expect at least two rashers of bacon and two sausages - I even only got a half slice of fried bread. Shame, because it was actually very nice, but it bearly filled a side plate. Other guests I spoke to had the same gripe, so if you stay here, ask for two breakfasts.
