“Great seaside hotel. Very warm welcome”
Reviewed September 25, 2011

We stayed at this hotel for two nights in September. Our immediate reaction was how warm the welcome was. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful. We had a large room which was a little old fashioned and could benefit from updating, however it was clean and comfortable. Parking was in the square in front of the hotel and we were able to park throughout our stay even though we took the car out a couple of times. The breakfast was of a really good quality. Its location is really good with local theatres and restuarants etc near by.All in all this was a very good hotel and one we would stay in again

My boyfriend and I stayed two nights at The Ellesmere along with my parents, my brother and my brother's girlfriend, as we had a family wedding to attend in the area. It's a traditional English B&B with a very good full English buffet breakfast and large (although basic) rooms. The beds were comfortable and all rooms have a small TV and tea and coffee making facilities. The only thing I wasn't too keen on was the bathroom, which was very dated. The shower was very small (difficult for my boyfriend who is over 6ft tall) and the water pressure was quite weak.

Other than that, no complaints. The staff are really lovely and happy to helpl in any way, and the location (less than a 2 minute walk from the seafront) is perfect for a weekend getaway. It's good value too, especially as you get the lovely breakfast included.

Having travelled by Train to Eastbourne the hotel took a while to locate. It looked unpreposing from the outside and the decor old fashioned and "busy". Nonetheless it had a friendly homely feel about it . We were running late but found the Proprietor had a solution for his late arrivals that we found quite charming.

We were pleased with the size of the room and the ensuite was very chic. We were later told our room had been recently refurbished. However that said the bed was a tad small for a double nd had no headrest. Also the TV was small and had poor reception. Each morning we were woken by the Gulls.

We were greeted each morning as the proprietor was very friendly and sociable. The breakfast was self service, standard full english and reasonable quantities. However the breakfast room is very small, so raise early and be down first for a good spot.

As my ol'mum says " You gets what you pay for" and in that respect the hotel was satisfactory.

We had just the best room...3 large windows to look out over the park. A large room high ceilings. we were made feel very welcome. A lift to get our cases up to our 2nd floor room although there are steps up to front door of hotel we found later we could have brought our cases through lower ground floor/disabled entrance. Cupboards, bedside tables, dressing table, toiletries ..bliss. plenty tea and coffee.Guest house not hotel as no bar or evening meals.Guest lounge/tv room. with newspapers. Very good breakfast provided. Plenty eating places close by. Good location close to Tennis Club, Theatres, heritage shops, beachfront promenade with pier and band stand with regular concerts. 10 min walk to town centre and more shops.

was very wet when we were there but heater in the room kept us warm. free parking out the front of the hotel, tho at night (on the weekend) this can be difficult to secure a spot. very good location for seafront and town centre. room was small but comfortable. shower however was so small it was difficult to turn around in it. breakfast was fantastic, all you could eat, with a decent freidge for the milk juices and yoghurts. Staff were excellent, made sure we had everything but werent in our faces all the time. All in all a very good place to stay.

Stayed here in August 2010 whilst the Eastbourne Airshow was on. Was promised a parking permit which was absolutely useless as the square in which the hotel is situated is closed during the airshow so avoid staying there during this period as parking in the rest of the town is also horrendous and we has to park 1 mile away. When we booked in the young lady was foreign and frankly had no idea of how to book us in. We received our keys etc and never saw a member of staff until breakfast the next day not what I would call customer care. Although the hotel is close to the sea front and looks good from the outside our room on the 2nd floor was very dated and in need of restoration. The bed creaked and the toilet /bathroom was just about adequate. Room was not cleaned and we tried to explain this to the cleaners but they could not speak a word of English. The one good point was the breakfast bar which served food of an excellent quality and in plentiful supply.
To sum up would not stay there again as value for money was not met with rooms costing £70 per night for Bed and breakfast.
