This is a stunning property. It is located close to the airport, but airport noise was not a problem at all. This central location means it is easy to visit all of Malta's attractions.
The house if full of character, with an old stone spiral staircase, lovely nooks and crannies in the living room, a bath squeezed in under the stairs, etc. The kitchen is very well equipped. The bedrooms are large and airy, and all have air conditioning. There is an inner courtyard that is perfect for late evening outdoor dining, with a gas BBQ. The outer courtyard contains a lovely 10x4m swimming pool. It has stunning stonework, and beautiful planting, including an ancient olive tree, and lots of superb reptiles - we saw lizards, salamanders, and a chameleon in our week at Ta Torri. There is also a Boules court. At the end of this outer courtyard is an 18th Century tower containing a bedroom, bathroom and small kitchen. Ideal for grandparents or second couples sharing a holiday. Also good for keeping the beer cold close to the pool!
The owners are superb, making everything very easy. Their recommendation of Alfred the Baker (100 yards away) was fantastic - he is a lovely man and bakes the most amazing bread! We wouldn't have found him without the inside knowledge.
Overall, we had a fantastic time. This place is highly recommended.
Just got back from another truly relaxing and get away from it all holiday at Ta Torri. This Maltese house of character is owned and managed by Margaret in the UK. The mix of historic architecture but all modern cons is exceptionally well accomplished. Whilst hiring a car gives you the freedom of Malta Mqabba is so well serviced by local buses you do not have to. 8 mins to airport and from there fast X routes to the whole island. The village shops less than 8 mins walk away stock all you need to self cater. There are a couple of places to eat and drink and you could not wish to meet a friendlier bunch of local people.
The secluded gardens of Ta Torri mean that you can just relax by the pool occasionally rise for the odd game of table tennis or pétanque. There is a dvd player for evening entertainment and a bookshelf of books.
As others have mentioned Malta is not short of biting insects so pack the insect repellant, swimming costume and sun tan cream and enjoy! Only don’t spread the word too much as we need to go back soon!
We have recently returned from a week at Ta Torri and must say what a wonderful property it is. It has been tastefully renovated and furnished and sits on the edge of the village of Mqabba where the locals are friendly and always speak. The grounds are kept in pristine condition by Robert, the handyman, and the pool is the cleanest we have ever seen. There are several sitting/relaxing areas throughout the grounds. Unlike other old properties we have stayed in on Malta this house does not feel cold or damp as it attracts the sun all day. We used the master bedroom as it was the largest and we thought would therefore be the coolest. We did have problems in there at night with mosquitoes and would certainly recommend using some repellant or a plug-in device. There were three other substantially sized bedrooms but as there was only the two of us we hardly ever passed through any of them.
The living room is comfortable with lots of seating and from here it is a short walk across the inner courtyard to the kitchen. We did find this a little inconvenient, but having said that, it was only a few steps from the kitchen door to some small tables where we ate breakfast in the sun. There is also a magnificent stone dining table and seating for eight outside the living room. One nice feature of the house is that stone blocks/slabs have been used to create tables and seating which all fits in with the property.
Valletta is only a 25 minute drive and is worth a couple of visits, indeed as Malta is a small island everywhere is accessible within a short drive.
We would certainly recommend this property for a quiet and safe environment in which to entertain children or just chill out. We did feel the space was somewhat wasted on a couple but are so pleased we stayed there.
This place is incredible! I cannot imagine anywhere better to spend a week away from the world, and most importantly relax. This place is also huge, and the pool in incredible. In a week, we hardly ever left the house!
Surrounding village of Mqabba is beautiful, offers fantastic local bakers and shops, as well as a good selection of local cafes and bars.
I would recommend this place to everyone.
Ta Torri is a stunning villa with a huge walled garden and an outdoor pool. The rooms air conditioned and are a great size. There is a dish washer/BBQ/fully equipped kitchen and indoor and outdoor dining areas.
It also has a table tennis table and bowls area and lots of little spots perfect for going to get a bit of peace and quiet.
There are local shops and bars less than a 10 min walk away and everyone was very welcoming.
It is homely, well looked after and loved and is the perfect get away for family and friends. I look forward to returning.
We've just returned from a fabulous holiday in Malta and stayed at Ta Torri which is a very large farmhouse and grounds in a village to the South East (quiet area) of Malta main island.
We had seen the Trip Advisor reviews (all 5 start and deservable!). We booked directly via the owner Margaret and she sent us very comprehensive details of the location and facilities and local points on interest, keys were posted to us at home in time for our journey.
Margaret couldn't have been more considerate and informative and made sure we had all the information we needed for our stay.
The farmhouse is simply magnificent and we couldn't believe how lovely it was when we arrived. It is just over a mile from the airport (about 6-10 minutes slow drive) and easy to find but would recommend wait for Margaret's driving instructions and also have a look 1st on Google Maps).
The accommodation is simply huge with loads of separate bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms and could easily cater for a large extended family holiday group.
The grounds are well cared for and beautifully planted out as a Mediterranean garden with a pool and sunbathing facilities. At the bottom of the very long spacious gardens there is the medieval tower "Ta Torri" which is amazing and has its own little flat with bedroom kitchenette and bathroom.
It was the perfect base for exploring the island, all major landmarks and attractions, beaches and beauty spots are within easy striking distance, about 10-20 mins at most and the north of the island about 45 minutes to an hour maximum.
The house itself is incredible (the photos do it justice) and is very solid and shows its medieval past. Margaret has made it a second home and it full of her past family history and life with a lovely comfortable warm and cosy feel.
We had a tech-free week and spent time playing the board games and using the pool and gardens, as well as wandering the very quiet idyllic village and meeting the locals. We visited a few of the village centre bars and band-club and also the very large church.
Noise from the airport was not a problem (the walls are 3-4 foot thick) and you don't really notice how close you are, also makes journey to and from the airport easy. We soon made friends with the the local baker and grocer and did all our shopping locally - the locals are really friendly and laid back.
We really didn't want to leave at the end of our holiday ad will certainly be returning to Ta Torri very soon.
Malta is a fantastic location for a chill-out holiday just to take it easy, lap up the history and feel of the island. Weather was just comfortably warm at 22-23deg in November which is perfect. Summer months can be very hot 35-40deg and with the sirocco winds can be a bit too warm for UK visitors! So end of season or spring would be a great time to go.
Be prepared to either us the very good bus services (they go everywhere even the remotest points) or hire a small car and be brave, cruise around and go to the quiet spots and bays, villages and scenic routes as we did. Driving can be a bit intimidating as there are no rules!
We have given Ta Torri 5 stars rating well deserved - a fabulous charming place to stay. Well done Margaret you have given us a holiday to remember!

p.s. would recommend: Imdina walled town, Blue grotto, Dingli cliffs, fishing villages to the south, craft village near Rabatt and the glass blowing factory, Malta air museum, also the Game Of Thrones tour if you are a fan or even if you're not - what an experience!
