I just spent a little over a week with my family at Tamarind. In short, if you are looking for a relaxing, quiet resort, this is Not for you. Though the beach is beautiful and the water is amazing, this is a noisy, busy hotel. Our rooms were clean and sizable but our air conditioner leaked and there was a leak in our bathroom too. (My parents experienced both of those issues too) Our bathroom also smelled quite bad from the moment we walked it. Constant screaming children and relentless beach vendors made relaxing on the beach difficult. At each meal that we ate at Tamarind the wait was long and just simply getting a drink or paying the bill was frustrating and time consuming. I understand everyone is on ‘island time’ but the service could have been much better. The beach towel boxes were empty our entire stay and the lounge chairs need updating- many were stained, ripped, old. We started taking out towels back to our rooms with us so we would have one for the next morning. Some positive factors are that this would be a great place for families with kids- IF you’re not concerned about luxury. There are three pools-one adult-only pool and many water sports options. The food was quite good with nice fresh fish options, however if you want to eat lunch on the beach your only option is a Caesar salad or a club sandwich. Since getting lunch is such a long ordeal we often just wanted to lounge by the pool or beach but those were are the only options on the menu there. Dinnertime was nice, great menu selection and live music most evenings. Breakfast buffet had many options but I felt as though nothing was cold enough as all the dishes sit there in the heat all morning. Unfortunately, my family all agreed that the bar areas had a terrible smell constantly- a bleach mixed with beer type of odor. It was awful. Each morning around 10 someone walks around with fruit skewers and again at 4 pm with coconut popsicles- this was a nice treat. Most of the rooms at Tamarind have water views, the staff is friendly, and the best time to be on the beach is in the quiet of the morning. A short walk or cab ride away are some wonderful restaurants- Must go to Beach House, The Cliff, Lone Star, and The Tides- exceptional service and amazing food. The Tamarind was acceptable and nice for a few days but unfortunately they need to put more effort in to general aesthetics- cleaning up the place a bit more, the smell, faster service, luxury appeal. I would not go again but had a nice vacation.

Room Tip: If you don't have kids, ask for a room away from the loud noisy bar, pool.

Having trawled the various web-sites to check out the best hotels in which to stay in Barbados, considering Location, Style, Value and Positive Reviews; we are returning to the Tamarind again, end-February/ begin January 2014 !!!
Every aspect of our previous stay was so good that when deciding to re-visit Barbados again this year, we heckled other hotels and booked Tamarind again.
The staff were without exception so friendly that this alone made a second visit inevitable.
Food in all cases was good, everywhere was clean and the location was ideal for us.

Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Only offered one room which was second floor and an ocean view location.

Have just returned after spending Xmas at Tamarind. Have nothing but praise for the place. Obviously it's Barbados and you don't get the glitz and glamour of Dubai but that's why we choose to go there.
Agreed there are parts of hotel that are a little tired but its not a major problem. The service from every single member of staff was outstanding.
Location was great and so easy to get out and about in the evening for dinner. Loads of loungers on beach and by pool. Could go on and on about it but all 100%.
We left on 29th December and it had got so much busier but obviously that was to be expected.
Loved it so much have booked again for 2014!
Well done Kim you should be very proud of what you and your team have achieved and are planning to achieve.

We've just returned from 7 nights at the Tamarind with our two grown-up daughters and, although we've had an enjoyable holiday in Barbados, we all felt a little disappointed with the hotel. On the positive side, it is situated in a good location, most of the staff were very polite and friendly and it is obviously an ideal place to stay if you have a young family. It was also great to get free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. For us though, it just lacked luxury. We booked fairly late last year so we had to have two pool view rooms which, although not uncomfortable, were very tired and in need of refurbishment, in particular in the bathrooms where the grouting was stained and the fittings in need of modernisation. We found the rooms noisy, both inside due to the old fridges, but also outside with traffic on the busy road, early deliveries arriving at Daphne's, which our rooms backed onto, and doors banging early in the morning when other guests were up for the grab a sunbed trip. We seemed to be last on the housekeeping rota as they were never cleaned before 4.00 pm, only a few hours before they were turned down again in the evening. The stairs and corridor areas around our room were also ugly and dated.

Our main issue though was regarding service. One evening we dined at the nearby Sandpiper hotel. On arrival, we had a drink at the bar. We chose cocktails from the menus on the table, were bought nuts and olives, got our drinks straight away and as soon as they were gone, were asked if we wanted another. This was just so relaxing and just so different from the bar in the Tamarind. Rather than sitting and chilling, we had to keep trying to grab the staff's attention to get a menu, were offered no nibbles, more long waits both to order and for the drinks to arrive and then another battle to get attention to sign for it all. Lunchtime in the bar was even worse, where you could wait a good hour before getting anything to eat and when the food did eventually arrive, it was often cold as it had been left on a table waiting for someone to bring it to us. Having been to the Caribbean before, we understand they do have a more laid-back style and of course, when you're on holiday you should slow the pace down but this was beyond a joke. Whether it was due to the hotel being busy with a higher number of larger family groups than usual or whether staff were having to take on different roles with it being Christmas, I'm not sure. Certainly on our last day, when the hotel seemed quieter, we did get better service both at lunch and when having a last drink before we left, even getting offered nuts and crisps with our drinks for the first time.

Before we left, we had a courtesy phone call from Reception to find out whether we had enjoyed our stay and we were honest and said it had been ok and told them why. To their credit they had obviously passed our comments on to the management who asked to speak to us before we left so they do care about their guests. I just think that without spending money on refurbishment and looking at their service levels, the experience they're currently offering is not a luxury 4 star one. Looking at other reviews on this site, they do obviously get a lot of guests who return year after year. Would we - unfortunately not.

WHAT AN INCREDIBLE, UNBELIEVABLE PLACE TO STAY. The way the staff treat you. the hotel it's self everything. I've been on a lot of vacations 4 per year, this place was great. FREE fruit and frozen eucalyptis towels in the afternoon by pool side, Nice touch. I love this place and will be going back every year.
