“Perfect Family holiday, cottage with great vibe”
Reviewed August 18, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Family of 4, two children aged 9 and 11.

Thanks for a great holiday; met all our criteria perfectly. I appreciate we are not all looking for the same thing, and meeting the right criteria can make or break a precious holiday so here is ours:

Private house/villa in quiet spot with nice pool - Maison Galliose is privately set just outside the village of Rieux Galliose, with lots of space. Lovely big pool that the kids practically lived in for a week with a sunny terrace (plus plenty of shade). There is a large garden/field also if you want to chuck a frisbie around. If you are unlucky enough to get any bad weather, then there is a pool table , darts, loads of games etc....loads of space

The house has a couple of adjacent neighbours (not overlooked) and there is a quiet road that runs near the property, and when I say quiet, I mean quiet.

The village is literally a five/ten minute work up a small hill, a perfect stroll to grab a croissant in the morning and a meal in the evening (we found three restaurants; very French, simple and un-touristy. (this is not the Dordorgne, no other Brits about) The local wine cave sells good wine for peanuts.

I assume the house itself is a second home of the owners, it has a personal touch and a really good vibe, like lots of people have had a good time there and I suspect they have. Its fairly rustic, has everything you need and we all felt at home the minute we arrived. The stairs are perhaps a bit steep for anyone who struggles with mobility, but certainly not an issue if you are steady on your pins. There is only the one bathroom, so fine for four, maybe a bit of a squeeze for 6.

The village itself is very pleasant and sleepy. I borrowed one of the bikes from the garage and did a little bit of local exploring..very quiet roads, surrounded by vineyard after vineyard.

In terms of information - Ross sends a memory stick with loads of information on well in advance, we have never been so well prepared as this; everything was exactly as we expected. Local numbers to call for help if we needed it, but not necessary in our case

Francois (lovely chap) came to clean the pool and dropped off some local fruit; he doesn't speak any english, and my French is shameful...but he got someone to write us a note in English when there was a firework display in the village one night so we didn't miss it. Nice touch

One recommendation we'd make in the local area (for adrenaline junkies) would be a visit to Lac de la Cavayere, just outside Carcassonne (30 minute drive), a local lake/ forest park where they have an awesome high wire circuit through the forest and a water park thats like total wipeout but better..my 11 year old son said it was the best day of his life!

So, all in all, a perfect holiday at a very good price...thanks Ross and Baden, you made our week.

“Maison Galloise C'est si Bon- "it's so good"”
Reviewed July 24, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

From the minute I booked Maison Galloise , Baden and Ross have communicated all aspects of the booking, travelling to property and information about property in a clear concise manner which helped immensely.
The property itself is located a short walk from the village of Rieux Minervois and is set to the front with an outlook to wonderful vineyards , where you can watch the sun set at night.
To the rear of the property is in immaculate gardens which offers privacy to the the pool area. However as the property is not overlooked at all, this just ensures that you are immediately relaxed with your surroundings as soon as you arrive.
The property is well equipped with all mod cons and has a wonderful cooks kitchen with various culinary equipment. If you wish to taste the local wine I would recommend a visit to the wine cave which is a short walk from the property ,where you can purchase wine by the litre for 1 euro 50 per litre. Wonderful local wine .
The property is ideally located to Carcassone airport and the medieval cite de Carcassone (25 minutes drive)', the lovely city of Narbonne (30 minutes) , Beziers ( 50 minutes) and should you wish to enjoy the Canal du Midi , Homp is ten minutes away where you can rent canal boats or enjoy trips.
Maison Galloise offers all the aspect of a holiday, you can relax by the pool ,soak up the local village atmosphere or if you wish to be more energetic visit the surrounding areas, vineyards , Cathar historical sites. It is an ideal base for all,I would recommend this property wholeheartedly and look forward to booking the property again.

“Fantastic Retreat”
Reviewed September 17, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

This was our second stay at this particular property and we cannot recommend it enough, it is set in a perfect location with first class shops, cafés, patiseraries, plus excellent restaurants which are just a short and very pleasant stroll away, the village has Its own winery where you can purchase local wines for as little as 5 euros for 5 litres, incredible I know and very enjoyable. The house is perfect with plenty of room and furnished to a high standard, spotlessly clean with everything you could possibly want for that perfect stay and more. The owners gave us so much information and help with our booking, as well as ensuring that we had full and clear instructions for a stress free journey, they made sure we had the keys well before we left the UK. There were also people on hand should we have needed help (which wasn't required but good to know). Plenty to see and do in the beautiful surroundings, but also a perfect place to just stay and relax by the pool, all in all a perfect holiday in first class property.

“A rustic gem which did not disappoint.”

A fantastic holiday experience from the initial contact through to the moment we left.

When I contacted Ross she replied almost immediately answering my questions and sending over the letting agreement. She sent links to additional photo's and posted out a USB stick with more photo's and additional information.

When we arrived at the villa it has the "wow" factor, with the big gates opening to the lovely front garden. We were sent a set of keys so when we arrived we did not have to wait for anyone to let us in. We parked in the shade and the children ran around the back to look at the fantastic pool area.

The inside of the villa was exactly what you would expect from a rustic a French villa. The front porch was a quiet area which all the family enjoyed at different times, no flies! The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed and more. There were various consumables such as washing up liquid and toilet tolls which we replaced as we used them up. A lovely welcome package including milk, eggs butter and wine was waiting for us on the table.

As a previous reviewer mentioned the stairs are steep, however after a day we hardly noticed.

The upstairs is just as charming as the rest of the villa. The nets to the windows meant we could keep them open at night and the fans built into the lights were fantastic.

The outside is what initially impressed us and it was even better than we hoped. The pool is very close to the villa, which meant we could sit around the table whilst the children were in the pool, or lie on the sun loungers or sit on the swinging seat, so many choices.

The garden was fantastic, the children loved playing up there. They also enjoyed picking fruit for us to eat.

The garage was great, although having two girls we probably used it less than many people would, but we did enjoy a few games of darts.

The villa is close to a forest area and we really enjoyed watching the bats come out still dusk.

The villa is at the bottom of a hill which leads into the village, this hill is mentioned in the negative review, however our children age 7 and 9 had no problems walking up it. We walked up to get breakfast, we also walked up to the supermarket if we only needs a few items. The village was lovely, we used the bakers, butchers, restaurants, cave and supermarket and everyone was really friendly.

Before we went I was intrigued about the building next to the villa. It was used a few times during our visit by the farmer but it was not intrusive at all.

The pool man was fantastic, he called in just to drop off potatoes and tomatoes, they were the best tomatoes ever!

I would not hesitate in recommending this villa to anyone, if you chose it you would not be disappointed (just don't choose the weeks we want to go back!)

It is this sort of detail that helps to give our future clients confidence in the location and us. “Sunny tranquil poolside haven for superb family holiday”
Reviewed August 19, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Maison Galloise offered us two weeks of lovely gardens, with a superb amount of space both inside and out, villa was extremely well equipped, everything you need, right from the start with the warm welcome pack of essential provisions, yet even before that because Ross sending link to online photos and also pen drive gave us all the information that we needed, and the reality when you arrive is even better than what you see in the visual images.

The pool and large garage with pool table and darts gave endless hours of fun for our three teenagers (and Dad !!) and the well kept poolside trees with their welcome shade at the hottest parts of the day, with plenty of chairs and sunloungers gave plenty of relaxing book reading opportunity for their Mum too.

An easy 5-minute walk to the centre of Rieux-Minervois, and we enjoyed two great meals in the friendly La Bella Volta Restaurant, the steak was superb and our family meal for 5 was pretty reasonable too considering we went for everything !! The well provisioned Spar at the edge of the village (a brisk 10-minute walk) meant that you could stay very local and have everything you needed.

We enjoyed our trips out; to the medieval cite at Carcassonne and also our day trip to Narbonne, plus we found the ambience of Beziers particularly attractive. The beach resorts of Narbonne Plage were busy but lots of space and things to do for beach lovers, and also the car drive along the coast from Gruissan up to St-Pierre-sur-Mer drew some spectacular views with varying terrain from salt marshes to golden sand. We enjoyed a day trip to MIrepoix too

We in particular enjoyed our family day out at the African Reserve at Sigean and also the mountain lake, walks and food / drinks kiosks at Les Montagnes on the approach road into Mazamet was a relaxing afternoon, or we could have got involved in some watersports.

We would like to thank Ross & Baden for their hospitality throughout and also to the staff who tend to their lovely villa as if it were there own, Thanks Bernie for being there to help if we needed anything, for keeping the pool clean and for bringing us croissants !!

We would definitely return to Maison Galloise and have been going to France on holidays for the last twenty years and seen many different qualities of accommodation and facilities, this is certainly at the top of the spectrum based on all of our experiences right across France, plus the proximity to local airports at Toulouse, Beziers and Carcassonne itself as well as to the A61, A66 and A9 autoroutes make this villa a great spot to touring the Languedoc-Roussilon area and slightly further afield with the right planning.

Thank you for a brilliant 2013 holiday.
