It was an enjoyable stay. Recently I returned to mercure and enjoyed it even more. My second stay at Mercure. En. Zulzhafri, the sales manager is the person to contact, if you wish to stay at mercure, he is so helpful. Mr.Vicky, manager, is a wonderful person, very helpful. This is the hotel that listens and practice the 'customer is king'regardless of local or foreign. Truly I enjoyed my stay. best service, food is nice (must try the kuew teow for breakfast, dhall is nice goes well with the roti canai), wonderful seaview, clean. i will surely return to Mercure. very peaceful stay and i will recommend it if you wish visit penang - this is a place to stay.

I enjoyed my stay here for a week in July 2019. I wanted a place near the beach but not Batu Ferringhi and this delivered. Much quieter and nicer, cleaner beach.
Easy and cheap access to everywhere with a grab taxi (I wouldn't bother with buses again in Penang)
Room was fine with a walk in shower and a sofa and large bed.
Staff all nice and friendly, very efficient too.
Pool area and gym were nice , even if the sun loungers were a bit manky, I just covered it up with pool towels so no problem.
Didn't eat here (why would you in Penang? ) but the outside tables are a nice place to watch the sunset go down with a cold beer or three
I would definitely return
Tip: there is an Indian cafe/bar just across the road in the street opposite the hotel. Buffet style with very tasty food and cheap cold beers. They will make Roti bread to order too. Came 2 or 3 times, staff so friendly. It's not flash, but all the better for it.

We accidentally booked this hotel thinking it was actually nearer to the famous Batu Ferranghi. Well we were very pleasantly surprised when our car pulled up and we ascended the welcoming staircase and were immediately hit with the cool breeze coming straight off the Straits of Malacca and the sight of the white sand beach practically uninhabited and the delightful staff who greeted us from there. The restaurant deserves special mention as the quality of the food is some of the best you will find in Penang. They have an 11 RMD lunch special that is ridiculously cheap for what it is. I twice had the Chicken Rotisserie and would highly recommend it. The breakfast buffet is a work of art with as many staff and chefs attending that you could mistake it for a food fare. The rooms are very new and well maintained, clean and slightly offset. The architecture in the design in general is worth a positive mention. A great swimming pool surrounded by coconut trees is a treat though be very careful of where you place your sun chair as my wife narrowly missed being hit by a falling old coconut. The only negative to the whole five night experience was that we were on the fifth floor just below the ballroom on the top sixth floor and there seem to be a continuous Bollywood band practice noice coming from there well into the late evening , it became quite distracting and if we were there any longer we would have asked for a change of room.
