We enjoyed our stay here, even though there seem to be a lot of teething problems with staff training since this hotel was taken over by Mercure. The staff are very friendly and willing but just do not seem to know what they are doing! The travel desk dropped us to the bus stop for the Hop on Hop off bus that is no longer running. The housekeeping staff did not make our room up until 1 or 2 pm. The hotel did not appear busy. The breakfasts were amazing. So many Asian selections and Western, except bacon. Staff extremely willing and friendly.
We found this area of Penang ideal. The 101 bus close by goes to Georgetown. Pay as you get on board. There is a small store similar to 7/11 next door. Avoid red taxis, no meters. GRAB works really well and reasonable. Pay them cash. . The hotel has a free shuttle to the night markets at Batu Ferringhi. Leaves 8 pm, returns about 10 pm.
Internet OK but does continually drop out. Just restart.
Very reasonable set lunch and dinner menu Mon to Friday. No compendium in room, need to ask re everything. Room Service menu there. Reasonable prices, club sandwich less than $10.
Alcohol not a big priority here and quite expensive. Fridge in room though.
If you request a boxed breakfast for an early check out, take it with you the night before or they will forget it!
