“Typical old hotel with large space”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2014

Hotel located in good place, got private beach and surrounded by good and lux hotels. But do not expect convenience like bars or restaurants, you may choose hotels in Georgetown area if you like crowds. Here you get serenity and perfect rest. Public RAPID Bus to Georgetown is quite convenient and pass in front of hotel regularly, including bus No.102 which luckily we took on our departure day to airport, very convenient only its schedule is limited.
Always start all trips in Penang from Georgetown with the terminal called "KOMTAR".
Hotel room was super large, we took deluxe ocean view, a typical of old hotel. The furniture were very old style, big size of cupboard and many drawers. It even has a sink, mini bar like small kitchen at home. Bed was large and comfortable. My husband enjoyed the terrace balcony for him to smoke while watching the beach. Breakfast was so so, quite crowded in the morning.

Room Tip: Take ocean view room, nice instead of facing main street

We stayed at the hotel for just 2 nights. Took a taxi from the airport, journey was about 40mins and we paid MYR50. The location was ok, check-in was smooth & we got the 24th floor but the Hotel gives us an "old feeling", it would be nice if the property is refurbished.

Upon arriving at our room, once we switch on the air-condition, it gives a very loud grinding sound, but soon after it quiets down, same for the shower knob, when you turn it on, it will give a grinding sound and no water flows until about 30-40 seconds. The furniture's in the room is OLD.

Hotel do provide free shuttle to Batu Ferenghi (Night Market) & Georgetown, this you have to book in advance at the Hotel reception. The free shuttle was a plus point. Taxi ride to get to these places cost about MYR20-MYR30, I don't understand why when there is a meter in the taxi and the taxi drives would'nt want to use that! It's hard to get a taxi from the Hotel or even on the roadside near the Hotel.

There is a food court near the hotel, if you are standing infront on the Hotel looking towards the main road, the food court is to your left, about 10mins walk. The swimming pool is quite small, when we arrived on Saturday, the pool was alive with lots of Guests, but on Sunday it was much quieter. From the pool, you can access the beach, there we book our water sports, such as parasailing, jet ski, & fishing boat(we caught NO fish at all).

Overall experience was moderate. Are we coming back to stay in the same hotel...? My answer is a BIG no. but to Penang, maybe yes...

wife and I cannot stay away from the place
We returned again for yet another relaxing holiday of three weeks...not sure now what number this stay was .. think it about our seventh visit and never get tried of the Rainbow
As always the staff are very friendly and the rooms great .. we have been booking a one bedroom suite now for the past few years and the higher up the better the view
This trip we used the hotel service for a trip to Monkey Beach and what a fantastic day at very reasonable prices which included a BBQ lunch on the beach
We had also booked a Candle Light Dinner on the beach ..but not being able to control the weather .. it rained so we had to have off the beach under cover .. just the same it was well worth the cost
As many have said the location is the best ...when booking ask for a room on the mosque side and the view is wonderful
We are heading back again later in 2014

My wife and I have just returned from a month at the Rainbow Paradise Beach Resort. We could not fault the hotel or the staff. We had a lovely room on the 24th floor, probably the best room we have ever had at any hotel in Penang. The buffet breakfast was as good as any other hotel, and when we arrived, we were given two vouchers for meals on either Friday or Saturday. The pool was very nice. and clean.
Thanks Mr Foo and all the staff for a lovely holiday

Room Tip: It all depends what you like, we had 2409

We've been staying at this hotel since 2005 and some years have been twice in same year. Good value for money. We're posting this review as feel the hotel gets a bad press from short stay guests. It's extremely good value for money as we stay no less than 3 weeks at a time in either december/january each year. Better quality rooms from 20th floor upwards. New management are improving areas which needed a bit of tlc. Whilst there this time gave suggestions of ways to improve gaya's bar from perspective of long stay guests. Will keep going back as can't get better value for money elsewhere around area and has fantastic location on beach, also central for batu ferringhi and georgetown.

Room Tip: Pick from 20th floor upwards. Better quality rooms.

I echo what other reviewers say about excellent breakfasts, courteous and helpful reception staff (in my case Ms Catherine was my saviour when I had a problem), very well-appointed room with great views etc. The hotel is all you could ask of it, particularly at the very reasonable price.
However, as a keen sea-swimmer/snorkeler/diver I also assumed that this resort would live up to its name. I should have checked first... As I leaned after booking but before arrival, the water is very cloudy, so no snorkelling - and there is no sea swimming, in fact, owing to jellyfish. So, like swimming in stinging custard.
Also, whilst others have commented positively on the CNT experience offered by the hotel, if you want a quiet stay it is NOT the time to visit. Massed ranks of mainland (PRC) Chinese, the men all wearing Premier League football shirts (about 60% Man Utd.) just doesn't do it for me I'm afraid.

Room Tip: I booked a Deluxe Studio Suite which had a lot of space and a great view, but was opposite the lift...
