“Great place!”
Reviewed January 15, 2012

We were here in August for a week.
First very nice thing was upgrading our room for no extra money :))
so we get very big suite, with very nice ocean view.
Second great thing about this hotel is it`s surroundings - right at the front of the hotel, on the other side of the road is a great indian restaurant - food is so cheap and so delicious, and stuff is so nice (try theirs Teh Tarik( milk tea), i swear this is the best drink ever!), and if you will cross the street, and go to the left of this restaurant you will soon (about 5-10 min calm walk) get to another great japanese restaurant (try theirs Watermelon juice!).
Can`t say anything about food in Sandy Beach, because we never have a dinner or a breakfast here. So, if you need, there is also a little supermarket right near the indian restaurant.
Now, enough about food!
Rooms in Sandy beach are very large, and clean. If you want you can read fresh newspapers, which are delivered to your room on sundays.
Sea is ok for malaysia, because Andaman sea is not like an indian ocean, it is more warm and more "grey". Also i don`t like to swim in a water, when i don`t clearly see what is under my feet, so i chose the swimming pool.
Also, there is a great doctor in the hotel :) very nice and fun! But i don`t wish you to get to know him, because it will probably mean that smth happened to you :)
Also, if you will rent a bike, there is a free parking.
There was only one problem - two times our faucet in the shower has been broken. We called a mechanic, and he fixed it :)
can`t say anything about excursions, because we didn`t buy any,
Also near the hotel is the bus stop, from what you can get to George Town.
Definetely will come back to Sandy Beach.
Btw, Penang is a great place to visit.
Hope you enjoyed my review:)

This hotel located at George Town which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The most famous tourism spot in Malaysia which well known for its heritage buildings, food, beaches and mountain landscape.

We prefer beaches so just stay at this beach hotel. The room is very big and comfortable. There is a hawker just a 5min drive which offer a very delicious local food such as Char Keuy Teow (fried noodles) and Asam laksa (noodle in spicy sour soup). Both are the most famous food which must eat when in Penang!

its a dated hotel. front desk was good, housekeeping was quite poor. considering the amount of guests during that time, it is kind of understandable but they should have pulled hired more people. we booked the deluxe suite and had ordered an extra room. was very comfortable and spacious for the 4 of us. breakfast was good. big spread. nice hotel to spend time in and to enjoy the beach/water sports/pool. i will have to add that the beach is nothing great though. we still had a good time there. was quite close to batu ferringhi night market.

We loved staying at this great hotel, the staff including Maria at the Concierge desk, Virginia in PR,the waiting staff who were all extremely friendly. My husband would like to extend a special thank you to the bell hop staff who arranged delivery of the "Berita Harian" to our room each day. The hotel offered everything we needed and more. We enjoyed the variety of food for breakfast and sipping a cool drink around the beautifully landscaped pool in the afternoon while the children swam. The rooms were clean and spacious with great ocean views, obviously the bathrooms need an update but this was not a major issue. The laundry facilities were brand new and enabled us as a family of 6 to keep our washing up to date. The free shuttle bus allowed us to do several runs into George Town and up to Batu Ferringhi at night for the markets and dinner. The highlight of our stay was the "Paradise Sandy Beach Christmas Eve Dinner" where we were treated to a huge buffet spread of traditional Xmas fare and local cuisine. The children were spoiled with games, party trinkets and live entertainment incuding Xmas songs and fantastic dancers. We felt like we were on a five star cruise in the grand ballroom!!! Thank you for a fantastic holiday we would not hesitate to stay again on our next Penang adventure.

Room Tip: As a family of six we booked two rooms across the hall of each other and there was plenty of space.

This is a basic hotel, dated and really in need of a major refurbishment. Although it is kept generally clean and the housekeeping was quite good, its fittings and furnitures are old (except probably the flat screen TV). Rooms are spacious, so those with kids will appreciate the extra space.

One plus point is that the hotel has a nice 'private' beach which is not crowded, plenty of sunbeds available and yet there are some beach activities nearby. Kids will love the beach because it's rather safe (no horse riding or beach bikes). The other plus point is that most rooms have seaviews. With buffet breakfast thrown in (basic spread but adequate) this hotel is value for money if seaview is of importance. Other than that, the hotel is average.

Hotel room is very spacious and clean, pretty decent. However the food served for breakfast buffet could have been better. It is pretty obvious that the management compromise on the quality because for a RM30++ for adults, they should have at least provide a whole lot more. For example, instead of butter for the bread, they served margarine, they used low graded cereals which taste like cardboard. The sausages were tasteless! On our first night there we decided to eat in the hotel. The buffet steamboat & bbq was awful. Very basic spread and when you pay RM40 bucks you would at least expected fresh seafood but instead, we were very disappointed. My husband highlighted this to the manager in charge but nothing happen; we paid reluctantly.

There were beach activities around the area, so it wasn't all that bad but considering the food that were served in the hotel, I would say they should look into the quality not the quantity since it wasn't cheap!
