We stayed in 2 Superior Rooms recently. The location of the hotel was great. However, the check in counter was terrible. The front office service was so bad, I have to explain more than 3 times of my booking at the counter despite the officer holding my booking confirmation voucher from tour agent. During the check out, I literally saw and heard the Indian front office lady scolding her Arabian guests at the front desk. The worst part was the minute we arrived, all the bell boys were available but they merely standing at their counter chit chatting instead of helping. I saw a car parking right in front of the hotel waiting for more than 15 minutes but no one cares. When a hotel guest car arrived with an old man, the car has no place to stop. No one care to help and just allow the guest to walk in slowly by himself with the help of other guests. The bell boys and the security guard were standing there chatting all day long. This is totally unacceptable for a four star hotel (so to speak).
I must agree that the rooms are spacious and comfortable. However, the toilet is terrible. The toilet seat was so badly stained and I merely dare to sit on it.
I would not stay here again!

My daughters family and myself stayed only one night at this Hotel, actually we had a pleasant stay here. The hotel is nice, compromising clean and the staff is very friendly. we booked the family suit since there were 3 adults and 3 children in our group. The suit was very spacious, consisting of 2 bedrooms with attached bathrooms, a living room with a nice comfortable sofas, a mini bar ( which did not have anything in it except mould and half frozen ice cubes. Disgusting! It also had a dining area and two balconies facing the sea. We had complimentary coffee making facilities. The bed rooms were good nice comfortable beds and we had a good night's sleep. Unfortunately the bathrooms were horrible, the glassed shower cabins had mould in every corner, the toilet seats were stained and it was daring to sit on them, the outlet in the wash basin did not work and it took hours for the water would subside. However when we decided where to have dinner i think we made a good choice to choose the hotel's restaurant, it was BBQ night and the spread was just fantastic, it was not only grilled meat but also Japanese, Local, Singaporean and European fare, the food all tasted delicious, which made up in a way for the mould in the bathroom. The breakfast was good as well. The hotel's pool is of a comfortable size, it also has a shallow area for small children. The pool bar was a bit of a disappointment , they had a variety of cocktails on offer during Happy Hour, unfortunately the taste was like shall I drink or not, we complained and got replacement but it was no better then our first order.Unfortunately the beach was not that clean it was scattered with all kind of rubbish, broken glass , food left overs and other things. This hotel is located at a public beach so who ever comes will leave their rubbish behind.SADLY ! Early morning we went to search for seashells and we found plenty. I have been to most of the hotels at Batu Feringhi and Tanjung Bungah ( the only 2 beaches in Penang ) and I must say here at the Flamingo Hotel Public Beach I have found the best seashells. Before i close my writing i would like to highlight the following: when you are at the beach with small children look around who is around you, keep your eyes on your children , unfortunately we had a bad experience whereby my granddaughter (3) was approached by a local man who touched her and said Oh you are so pretty and kept touching her, my daughter and i were nearby and went on the spot to see what was going on, to our shock the man was wearing a Tshirt and a look through kind of cloth which was open in the front and shockingly his manhood was fully exposed. However while walking on the beach my grandson got stung by jellyfish, he screamed in pain, we went to guard by the pool side and asked him what to do, he just smiled and said very simple apply some vinegar ( which he had on stand by ) after that go and pee on the sting. To our surprise it helped within minutes, The time came and we had to depart while settling the bill I requested for the manager just to highlight the mould and the pervert at the beach. Sadly to say she did not have much to say to the mould condition, her reply was oh mould sorry about this, to the pervert her reply was that they could not do anything about it since the property is located at a public beach . Sad but what to do.

Room Tip: since we had the family suite choose the one with sea view

We found hotel location very good with good transport links. The hotel was on a very good beach location where there was no intimidating beach sellers however we could not make the most of the sea due to the jelly fish, which is of no fault of the hotel !
On arrival we were greeted by friendly, helpful and smiling staff. We were amazed by the staff not looking for tips and when tipped, generously and regularly, they would not accept and would say 'but Sir this is my job' so they got more tips from us.
The lobby area is open and not air-conditioned making it very uncomfortable and as the bar was in the same area this lack of A/C prevented us from using the bar facilities.
The first room we were assigned, despite making a special request for a double bed via travel agent well in advance,we were given two singles and the WiFi not working. We were promised we would get a double the next day which did not happen we politely asked the next day and were told the hotel is full and nothing available. The third day we were given another room which had a double bed but NO WiFi again. We were moved again to a new room which had little or NO WiFi again to make matters worse the room air-conditioning NOT FUNCTIONING on the arrival of the engineer we were told it would take a little time to build up 'STEAM' and that he would keep an eye on it and rectify the fault !!!! On our return in the evening yes the engineer was right it had got very hot but NO A/C I called reception and was told that they would move us to another room but assured the A/C would be working next day, being reasonable people we agreed only to discover on our return the room very very hot the engineer returned he done something to the A/C in the loft space in the room and said he needs to reset from the master control in the basement.By about 11.00pm we are roasting as the A/C is not working at which point I spoke to the duty manger who offered me a fan unit which I refused.
I explained to the duty manager,June, the A/C is a must in a hotel where the ambient temperature is at 30'C 24/7. Credit to June as soon as she arrived at our room she immediately said this room is unacceptably HOT and the A/C had not been fixed.
June offered us another room which she inspected personally and again moved us around midnight, yet again giving a healthy tip to the young lads !
The rooms are spacious but very bland with strange light switching circuits system the beds were not secured and would move if sat in an upright position with head on head board .
The hotel has a scruffy, bland, uninviting feel and appearance however we had the sea view superior which had lovely views.
The hotel pictures need to be updated.
We had room service sandwiches a couple of times which were good and reasonable cost.
Breakfast was good with a reasonable selection and was regularly replenished fresh omelettes to order were good, staff were attentive and friendly even to the RUDE guests !
We would not choose to stay at this hotel again.

This hotel is perfectly located! It takes only 10 minutes driving to Gurney Drive (famous hawkers center) and around 25 minutes driving to Georgetown. We stayed here for 2 days. The room is big and facing to the sea. There is a balcony for us to stand there and enjoy the sea view and breeze. The most enjoyable moment was eating breakfast at pool side area. Their breakfast came in a lot of varieties, from local to western...We also ordered 'nasi lemak' from room service and it was delicious. There was a signboard of 'jellyfish' at the entrance to the beach, swimmers must be careful on that! The beach was a bit crowded but in the overall we like this hotel and the beach. We had a sweet stay there.

The room was big, old, worn & tired. The floor was tiled, towels were thin & the air conditioner struggled to bring the temperature down. The balcony outside was dirty & was not inviting at all to sit outside for even 1 minute to enjoy the sea breeze. There was free WIFI, but the reception was poor.

Breakfast in the dining room was very bad. The dining room was not air conditioned, & we were hot & sticky with the hordes diners on Sunday 29 July. Fried eggs were left cold in the bain maries, cold meats were left at room temperature exposed & deheydrated - a great recipe for food poisoning!!! Nothing was replenished at breakfast & there were queues of people waiting to be fed. We constantly had to remind staff to fill the empty bain maries & platters.

There must be better hotel in Penang. Stay here only if you are desperate.

Big room with 2 large single bed in Deluxe room fit four of us without problem (2 adult, 2 small children) . I found it very similar to Paradise rainbow hotel next door which i used to stayed but more clean, modern and less crowded. Location is close to town with nearby shopping areas like Tesco mall, Island Plaza mall, Gurney Plaza... and eatery places like Strait Quay, Precinct 10, Times Square, etc.

Facilities: Lots of facilities and small shops in the hotel, it has barber shop, convenient store, kids club, fitness room, jaguzzi pool bar, spa center, etc. They offer babysitting service in kids club for RM10/hour so that parent can enjoy the spa treatment. Gym room is equipped with exercise equipments and all looks new.

Room: Room is clean and very spacious with 2 big single bed, flat screen TV with 16 channels, in-room safety box, tea/coffee making facility, 2 complimentary mineral water. Toilet have all amenities needed including toothbrushes and rain shower. Water pressure is strong and it has 2 shower heads where the moveable one is good to shower for kids.

Food: Buffet breakfast is above average with lots of varieties for adult and kids. It has porridge, noddle, fried rice, steamed bun, bread, pastry, ham, baked bean, salad and some local fried foods. Few fruit juices to choose from beside tea/coffee and fresh milk.

Beach: Lots of water sport activities available on the beach, check out photo uploaded. My kids spent a wonderful time playing with just the sand and wave on the beach.

Room Tip: Choose the one facing the beach and avoid another side facing other hotels as the air-con blower is...

Although this hotel is old,not very clean, not luxurious, but we spent the best times there!!!!
This hotel is full of people,we felt like home, fun all the time in the swimming pool and on the beach, many beach sports activities we tried many and it was awesome! the buffet was very very traditionally rich in a way you can't ever know what you are eating.
they make very nice offers on lunches, but again very traditional meals.
this hotel is very alive,it really made us feel the resort feeling, swimming, relaxing, beach, food, sun, everything!
Penang is also very exciting, we had the best times there!
I always look for an alive hotel like Flamingo when I book for hotels, I always compare the beaches to its beach. although there was a lot of jelly fishes that time!
When you find too many people around you, all friendly and makes you feel like home, you really spend the best times.
P.S: Staff are not friendly, hotel lobby is not air conditioned. but who cares!
