Stayed for two nights and in general it is ok value for money. Location is excellent, the pool area is big and well maintained, the WiFi has good coverage and generally ok speed, and the rooms are a decent size with a good view. That is however all there is to say on the positive side. In general the service is horrible and disorganized. Despite having booked in advance on Agoda, checkin took the better part of half an hour. The receptionist acted like he'd never seen a passport nor a credit card before and he two female colleagues didn't lift a finger to help him - they just looked on as he became increasingly flustered and they seemed to have the laugh of the evening. The back office manager lived up to his title and stayed in the back office and didn't in any way contribute to solving whatever issues it was that the young receptionist had.
The room itself was clean and basic. What I found particularly annoying is that the beds are on wheels and therefore constantly move around when you turn over in bed or sit on the bed. Also the aircon seemed to live a life of it's own totally detached from any control unit and thermostat. Alas also a very noisy life.
Breakfast was OK - there was something to cater for both a Malay, a Chinese, a Japanese and a European taste. The quality of the raw materials was low, but so is the price of the breakfast so it's a fair deal. However, the breakfast area is way too small to cater for all the guests that wants to have breakfast at the same time. This isn't made better by the fact that the breakfast restaurant is understaffed and that there is absolutely no kind of plan for who's doing what, when, how and where. Tables are left uncleaned for up to half an hour while guests are queued up to have breakfast. The buffet isn't maintained and quite frequently you experience empty plates, lack of glasses for juice etc. All in all a bad experience, both for the guests and for the poor staff members trying to get ends to meet without any kind of guidance and supervision.
The general impression of Flamingo is that it is a recently renovated hotel with good facilities. A little tasteful art of the walls and some less tacky decorations in the lobby would work wonders, but all if this will be waste of energy and money unless something is done to the quality of the service. Train the staff properly, organize their work and routines so they don't run in circles like headless hens and the Flamingo could be a pretty decent hotel that guests would want to come back to.
