“Excellent local tea shop”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

My partner and I visited Chai early in the New Year and were welcomed back like long lost friends.

The range of lunch items (open sandwiches, tasty tartlets, soup specials and home made tortilla) are fabulous and I went for the Tortilla with homemade coleslaw. My partner wasn't 100% and when I asked for toast and mint tea, the owners were very obliging, even though the breakfast menu had finished an hour earlier.

As an addition to lunch we took away a few items from the deli (fabulous charcuterie), some homemade cakes (which were wonderful) and also ordered Blue Mountain coffee - which is the only place that does this in the whole of Swansea!

We haven't yet tried the tapas evenings, but we are planning to do so in the next few weeks.

This is a fabulous little tea shop/deli and deserves all the local support it can get - looking at the numbers of local people who eat there, Chai is destined to be a long term success.

“look else where”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

Stick to the tea rooms in the day, not authentic tapas that I would expect very basic and salty some reason. I would pay extra to go else where, not worth the hype they advertise. Don't sit by the Slamming door

“Don't bother in the evening”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2012

I read all the positive reviews on this place and decided to visit, unfortunately I decided to visit on a Saturday night instead of the day time. This place is clearly a nice tea room, it is not a nice restaurant for an evening meal. The deal is tapas, no choice , just a platter of mixed tapas, a cool idea, if what was on that platter was good. Ours consisted of onion Bhajis !!!!, out of place and too salty, tuna pasties, made with tinned tuna, chorizo cooked in red wine which again was too salty to eat, A nice tortilla, some quite nice pork balls in a tomato sauce , stuffed mushrooms and mushrooms in garlic ( again too salty ) lots of food and an excellent price at £15 per head, but really just ok, I'd rather pay more and get better.

“A restaurant that wonderfully different!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2012

Family run. The chef's provide absolutely fabulous home cooked food. Have visited several times now & had something different each time & never been disappointed. Nothing is too much trouble. Absolutely spotless establishment. Highly recommend this fantastic restaurant, it's well worth the walk up Newton Road :)

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

saturday night is tapas and byo!!! amazing food.
a group of us went on saturday night and had the best mix of tapas, all homemade, delicious, the meatballs stuffed with goats cheese was just so tasty wish i had room for more.the deli is excellent value and we have booked to again next month,i could eat there every week,no problem!!
the place is comfortable, staff friendly and helpfull.
if there were some nice rustic chairs instead of the present ones it would be 100% perfect .
