Owner description: At Hafrsfjord we find the monument Swords in Rock. It was here Harald Harfagre fought a battle that united Norway into one kingdom in 872 AD. The monument represents peace, unity and freedom. The Viking swords' hilts are modelled on swords found in various parts of the country. The monument was made by Friz Roed (1928-2002) and unveiled by King Olav in 1983. The monument can be reached by bus nr. 29 from the centre of Stavanger.

“Impressive - 20 Minutes Max”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2013

Don't allow much more than 20 minutes, some good photos with the backdrop. If weathers nice maybe have a swim otherwise you'll be done within the hour max.

Beautiful picturesque photo opportunity. Bring swim trunks. Man this is pretty. Bring your camera and a picnic too. 200 kroner each way in a taxi.

“It's cool to see”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2013

It was a quick stop on a tour but we had fun taking our photos in front of the swords. Not necessarily a must-see but if you're in Stavanger you might as well go. It's free, and it's a non-congested area of the city.

“Perfect picture stop!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2013

This place is extremely important in the history of Norway. The 3 swords remind of the battle of Hafsfjord in 872; the first step in the unification of Norway as a country.
Nice monument with great views, ideal for a photo-stop.

“Beautiful thoughtful monument”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2013

If you're driving between the airport and the city center and you have some time to spare, drive along Hafrsfjord (tell the taxi driver Møllebukta) and you'll come past this great monument. Brilliant for pictures!
