Owner description: A Dynamic Museum for a Dynamic IndustryNorwegian Petroleum Museum is a museum for everyone. Its exhibits explain how oil and gas are created, disovered and produced, and what they are used for. The museum also provides informastion about technological advances and the way petroleum influences Norwegian society. Original objects, models, films and interactive exhibits illustrate everything from everyday life offshore to technology and dramatic incidents. The curious cat Petro serves as a guide through the museum's science centre. The museum was designed by architects Lunde & Løvseth, and is an attraction in itself. Its architecture is a scenographic interpretation of the Norwegian bedrock, the open coastal landscape and the offshore oil installations. Architechtural reviews have said that there is hardly a building in Norway which signals its function as obviously as the Norwegian Petroleum Museum. The museum was opened in 1999.

“Learn more about the oil industry!”

This oil museum is very interactive and well worth a visit, even if you are not a museum person!
A funny 3D movie explains the creation of oil and the museum offers info on exploration and production on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and how it has changed the life of the people in Norway. Many interesting objects on display, donated by the larger petroleum companies.

“Oil History in a small town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2013

I recently attended a conference at the Norwegian Petroleum Museum, and despite having lived there most of my life I had never been. It's a great place to get an insight to the oil history how it was discovered, used and so on. There are some real fun bits like old technology, videos and so on. It's real educational for big and small. Also what's great is you can host events here (which is how I ended up here), and if attending events it's free to go round the museum (usually it costs to get in). But again well worth a spy.

“Very entertaining”

I really enjoyed my trip to the oil museum, however being science minded perhaps that's the main reason why! Plenty of interactive things to look at and take part in. Including trying on offshore survival suits.

“fun”

On the day I visited their machine was broken therefore it was free to visit the museum. There is a lot to learn, the videos are great as they explain things really well.
My husband particularly loved going "off-shore"

Very interesting with hands on things for the kids. Doesn't take too long to get around. Not too expensive .
