Comfort Hotel Square
Ranked #5 of 27 Hotels in Stavanger
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 1, 2013

The hotel is located within 5 min walking distance of downtown Stavanger.

Positives:
- clean
- cool interior and the hotel has a chillaxed wibe
- breakfast had a variety of choices and was open until 11:00 (12:00 on sundays)
- welcoming staff
- reception always staffed

Some minor negatives:
- could not turn on light in bathroom without turning on almost every other light in the room (irritating during the night)
- rooms were a bit on the smaller side, but we managed
- no heating on the bathroom floor, the tiles were cold and uncomfortable to walk on without socks
- toiletpaper wrapped in plastic (weird..)
- no wardrobe
- no minibar

All in all I would definitely recommend this room. :-)

I stayed there 4 nights. I recommend this hotel. Very good location great gym and nice people. Very good bed and stylish deco. I will come back for my next business trip. I enjoyed the mixed crowd not just business man from the oil industry but also tourists. The restaurant has a short menu but ok for one week. Arty deco. Free coffee in the lobby. Ideally located for a walk in the old town.

When I first walked into my room (319) i thought that it was not quite finished from being updated, and that i should change rooms. But the concrete (cement) walls with a light fitting carved into it is the intentional design. It is pretty basic as other people have said (no toiletries etc) but then i always take my own, so this doesnt bother me. There was a TV in my room, and enough room to put my stuff out for a couple of nights. The shower was excellent (nice and hot, and a rainfall shower head) and the bed was really comfortable. Small things are a bit unusual (like the fact that you cant turn on any lighting from near the bed, and you have to head back towards the front door to do this), but generally i would recommend it. Just a 5min walk from some great restaurants, and the breakfast was plentiful and good quality. Friendly and attentive staff who actually wanted to help (which makes a nice change from some of the hotels i have stayed in before for work)

Room Tip: Odd Numbers which face out onto traditional wooden houses

Don't be put off by the murals or quirky prints in your room (Best observed when sober)
Very helpful staff on check -in .
OK ,rooms are basic.
Yes ,take toiletries as soap dispenser is basic and no other amenities.
The breakfast is fresh ,wholesome food in an open buffet that works with the location.
Good value ,and for tourists ,include a Saturday or Sunday night night and rate drops by almost 50% per night.
Even for businessmen ,good location and close to restaurants and nightlife.

Room Tip: (better views if you take odd numbers).

This is a fairly new hotel. I was happy with my comfortable single room on the 6th floor with a pleasant view. The mattress was very good. Another positive is the location, a couple of minutes walk to the harbour and old Stavanger and just 5 mins to the railway station.
Not a lot of frills, however. Breakfast comes with a wagging finger - no pastries, rolls, waffles, nothing sweet except fruit. Service so so.
However, this is a very pleasant place to stay. My friends were at the SAS Atlantic which was definitely looking tired in comparison.

Seems like most of the poor reviews of this place came from business travellers - understandably so, I think, but for tourists staying for one night or two this place is an excellent choice. The place is modern and quite sleek, although the wall murals are questionable... I think some children might have found the mural in our room disturbing. We had booked through Fjord Tours, and despite my worries that the reservation would have gone missing, checking in and out was painless. The receptionists on both days were professional. After we checked in we realised the extra single bed in our room had not been put in. We called Reception and the receptionist told us Housekeeping had gone home for the day and she was the only person at Reception, but she would try and settle this as soon as possible. About 10 minutes later she came to our room pushing in the extra bed herself! It does seem rather strange that the hotel is run by only one person at night, but kudos to the receptionist.

Great shower fittings as well. However, one problem we had with the room was that all the lights in the room were controlled by a single switch, which is a problem when someone wants to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night! Breakfast was good. The hotel is located in a central area, 5 minutes from the harbour and another 5 to the bus to/from the airport.

Nothing really out of the ordinary, but they do all the essentials and they do them well. Staff are almost all friendly and efficient (on one visit there was a notable exception), breakfast is very good, the rooms are well equipped and the beds are comfortable. The showers are great and I really appreciated the heated bathroom floor. There's a well equipped gym and the location is good too - pretty close to the old town and lots of bars & restaurants. One aspect is a bit weird - they have 'art' in every bedroom above the bed which is a little disturbing - a large picture in reds, greens and greys of distorted people. The theme is repeated around the hotel - in the lifts and the stairwells. Really rather odd.
Only one gripe - if you have dinner in the hotel you can't charge your room, and they don't accept Amex where the hotel does. So the few occasions when I did have dinner there they had to go on a personal card rather than on the hotel bill. An inconvenience rather than a problem but not how I'd like it.
Overall pretty good and I'd certainly be happy to stay there in future.

Room Tip: Not a tip so much as something to watch out for - in summer it's light until almost midnight so...
