The walk to the top is fine up the steps and if you don't like steps, there are alternative paths that are slightly longer, but easier on the knees. As well as beautiful views, there are some alternative signed paths to explore which are in the forest and away from the town.
nice viewpoint with a fantastic view over the city and the sea. To walk up their is about 470 stairs to climb but it is worth it
The climb up the 418 steps is not difficult, given the number of places to stop along the way if you need them. Seeing the area from the top is definitely worth the time, and the climb lets you have an active adventure in Alesund without needing the time it would take to go farther away from town. Very enjoyable!
First of all, besides 600 steps up you can drive to the viewpoint. There is a sign informing that costs 10 nok to enter the place, but we decide to have some coffee and tea so we were not charged even for using the toilets.
Ålesund my home town and a fantastic place for a tourist you most visit Fjellstua Viewpoint its have the best view of town you can get there by car or 418 stairs from city park i personally prefer the stairs
We’d initially intended to ascend the viewpoint in the morning, but with a cruise ship in port, one look out our hotel window confirmed that we didn’t want to be part of the traffic jam of people walking up the Fjellstua stairs. We ended up ascending around 6:00 PM and there were just a small handful of people at that point. It’s 418 steps up which isn’t that bad, and they make it fun by telling you what # step you are on every so many steps, so it started to become a game for our son. At the top, we were spellbound by a spectacular view – you really owe it to yourself to go up just so you can see the gorgeous surroundings! We were able to see the sun start to set, then we headed back down. We were going to follow another poster’s advice and take the footpath instead of the steps, but it was really long and we were hungry for dinner, so we turned back around and ended up going down the steps. This was a fun way to end our time in Alesund.
