We got to go on a trip on a beautiful sunny day. If you first buy a take away coffee at Lyspunktet, you can enjoy it while touring the city. It is the best break you can have, good coffee and an excellent view.

I was so blessed by my trip.

We were in a group which included 3 generations & we all enjoyed this tour. We only had a short period of time to explore the area since we were on a cruise stop & this tour was perfect. The guide was informative & the views at Fjellstua were great.

The "City Train" is basically just like a train, but which runs along on the road. We were a little crammed in, but we got a brilliant tour & orientation of Alesund with a very informative and clear commentary throughout. Unlike the Tourist Hop on/Hop Off bus, the City Train takes you right up to the Fjellstoua Viewpoint for a 10 minute photo stop, from which the views are quite simply breathtaking. From memory the cost of the City Train was around ten UK pounds per person - so pretty good value - especially compared to package tour trips. The duration is around one and a quarter hours. This activity would be especially good to do in the morning because having been "orientated" you could then choose to revisit specific parts of the city on foot later in the day, knowing where they were located. Very highly recommended.

My wife and I had looked forward to this, and were not disappointed. It is the ideal way of seeing a beautiful city. We virtually stepped off our cruise ship on to the train, which leaves every 35 minutes when a cruise ship is in port. Very informative commentary in English - seven other languages available on headphones - with some helpful live comments from the driver. There was a 15-minute stop at Fjellstua viewpoint - just enough time to take photos of the wonderful panorama below and "pay a pound" [actually free to us]. Could not help but notice the disrepair of some roads, just like home. The cost at NOK150 [£15] each for a 70-minute round trip was worth every krone.

It will cost 17 Euros per adult to get on this cute train like tram around Alesund. You can find the ticketing counter when you exit the cruise. Note that the last tram leaves at 4.15pm. The steps are not steep so if you are on a wheelchair, the kind staff can help you up your seat and leave your wheelchair with them till you return an hour later. The tram will take you up to Mount Askla where you will be in awe of the beautiful sight at the view point. You can choose to walk 418 steps down from the view point via the city park back to where the tram started. You will need to let the driver of the tram know!

Upon descending back to the tram pick up point, you will pass by the town of Alesund and it's river banks which has some resemblance to Venice. This area is known as " Norwegian Venice " Loads of photo taking opportunities here!
