This hotel has no shower screen, only a curtain, so no matter how you try, the bathroom floor will be wet after your first shower. The walls are paper thin. The room is tiny, the tv is facing the other wall. People say it is cozy. Well, if you like all of the above, go for it. as for the location, yes it is on the hill near university, and I really liked the location - and the exercise. But for the price I would have expected a less austere room.

Lovely hotel in a peaceful location fairly close to the bustling centre. Friendly and helpful staff on the reception desk. Bedroom was small but fine. Really lovely sitting room/breakfast room with stained glass window, comfortable elegant furniture and free tea/coffee/hot chocolate available all day. I would definitely stay here again.

There's a lot to love about this hotel. It is in a beautiful building full of antiques in a neighborhood of stunning houses, the dining room is like stepping into the 1800's, the curving stairs as you enter are lovely, and you are greeted by very nice people when you check in. We had a room facing a lovely park which filled up with college students drinking at night, you have to carry your luggage up those beautiful stairs, there is no a/c (common in Norway I'm finding), the bathroom is so small that you would have to sit sideways on the toilet in you are over 5'9" and it has one of those showers without a rim so the entire floor gets wet when the shower is used. I will give up a lot of things for a great location and while this hotel is in a lovely neighborhood it is a very long downhill walk to the harbor which is where everything you want to see is located and then you have to walk uphill to get back. So, lovely place, bad location and not worth the cost we paid.

Room Tip: If you have any difficulties walking, this is not the place for you.

This is an OK hotel in every respect. Not luxurious by any means, but clean, with helpful staff, and a large room. The breakfast was good, in the room with the stained glass windows; they have hot chocolate and coffee availabe for free all day, and also cookies in the afternoon.
It is a good little walk, maybe a half mile, to the main tourist attractions. One nearby neighborhood seemed not so good, with needles on the sidewalk and young men lounging around staring at us. We did not go that way again. Walk instead toward the university and then down to the center of town. That way is better, with people on the sidewalks pushing baby carriages.
They do charge 100 NOK ($18) per night for parking, although they had quoted me only 50 NOK in an email and I only had to pay that. That may be negotiable by email.

The hotel is not recommended to old people, it is located up the hill, but very close to the central station and old bergen. You can explore all the city by foot. In a few minutes you can walk to the harbour.
