But this is Norway after all! Nothing comes cheap. Solveig was very friendly (showing us a map, suggesting restaurants and sightseeing attractions) but as we flew into Bergen, we were on our own getting to the guesthouse (35-minute bus + 10-minute walk). It was a bit odd that she has a credit card machine with stickers on the windows but told me that I needed to pay in cash. The small apartment (we stayed in #1) was quite nice, it had a spacious living room and room to cook, and the bedroom and bathroom were nice, with the open window providing good air circulation for the rare warm day in Bergen. Though a bit of a walk from the fish market (15 minutes), the guesthouse is at least walking distance from everything in Bergen. Would be great for a longer stay where we could use the kitchen!

Well located, well equipped, great owners. spent 2 nights there and totally pleased. well worth checking out if you are going to Bergen. the service that we received was above and beyond what you normally expect

Room Tip: we were in the top room. great view but abit of a stair climb.

Stayed at SG for 2 nights after arriving from the magnificent but exhausting day trip of Norway in a Nutshell. Iven Solveig (not sure of spelling) kindly picked me up at the train station and took me to the Guesthouse. I stayed at the ground floor studio apt. Afterwards he not only gave me recomendations on where to eat and go for groceries, but he also dropped me off at a local restaurant.
The room is small, but very comfortable for 1 person. It has a small kitchenette with the necessary utensils and cooking pots. The area is a charm. Timber homes across the street from the water. 15 min walk to Bryggen area.
It is also a 10 min walk to pick up the airport bus.
The price is just right.
Wifi in the room works very well
There is no breakfast obviously, but a small grocery is 5 minutes away.
Bed was comfortable and bathroom had heated floors, which was great for a 50F days we were having in July!
If ever in Bergen again, will stay at SG.

I have just returned from a 5 night trip staying with a friend in Skuteviken Guesthouse and we were very sad to leave. The Guesthouse is easy to find (please note, there are 2 Blu Radissons... we got off at the wrong one (my own fault) but it was only an extra 10 minutes walk) and is a lovely stroll past Bryggen to the fish market and funicular back into the centre.
Bergen is pricey... but the kitchen is so well equipped that we cooked in the room for 3 nights (therefore allowing us to have 2 lovely meals out - at restaurants recommended by the hosts). There was also a supply of some spices, oils, butter, rice and pasta aready in the cupboards which helped. The fridge also allowed us to prepare picnics every day for our walks. There are a number of supermarkets within a 10 minute walk.
The living room was very comfortable ad well decorated, the bathroom spacious and the whole place was very clean. Though there is a blind and curtain in the bedroom, it can still be fairly light in the summer so we packed an eye mask which helped.
I would recommend this lovely little place to anyone staying in Bergen.

This little guesthouse was perfect for our stay! It's not very close to the train station, maybe a 25 minute walk, but it is very close to the funicular and the wharf. We arrived in the morning and Solveig's husband met us at 9am. He was very friendly and gave us a map and pointed out where to eat, where to buy groceries and where to hike. The guesthouse is very clean and the apartments are quite spacious. The decor is lovely! Vibrant colours against a white background. It's perfect if you are trying to save a few dollars by eating at home. I felt very at home! Just watch your step between the bedroom and the living room :) stubbed my toes every time!
