The location could hardly be better in Bergen. This 16th century hotel consists of two buildings cleverly joined by glass walkways with much of the decor consisting of old wooden planking. The facility was impeccably clean with our double room quite spacious leaving no sense of cramping or smallness. All room amenities functioned well with the internet being lightning fast. The breakfast buffet was absolutely ample with a large variety of food on offer. The staff were so so friendly and helpful in all aspects. I mentioned that on the fourth day of our stay we would have to miss breakfast because of our early flight and they offered and made us a box breakfast to take with on our departure date. Highly recommend .

Room tip: Third floor with street view met our needs completely

The location of the hotel is in the middle of the old city center, next to the fish market/ harbor and the train to the top of mount Floyen. It is also next to a road that turned out to be busy, so we asked to move to a different room, which was no problem at all. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The reception area of the hotel and the old hallways are very charming. The hotel has been renovated, which makes it comfortable, but less authentic. The rooms are big and have a nice bathroom. The breakfast is okay and has some very good coffee (also to go). For a stay in Bergen to visit the sites, I would recommend this hotel.

Room tip: The rooms facing the street have a nice view, but also streetnoise.

For our precruise Hotel, we chose the Hanseatic based on reviews, and we were not disappointed. We loved the open fire in the lounge/ reception area, where coffee was readily available, the friendly welcome from the manager (who proved to be a great source on what we should see and good advice, generally), the quirkiness of the rooms - our daughter’s was quite different from ours - and the excellent breakfast, again in a charming olde worlde room. Very close to the funicular and good restaurants. Highly recommended.

We had the pleasure of staying here for 2 nights. Now I must say I'm a bit of a stickler for street noise so we moved to another room (which was *no* problem at all). The room itself was comfortable and cozy and had all if not more amenities than you usually would find at the bigger chains. Add to that a quality breakfast and very friendly staff and when we're back in Bergen we'll certain try to book a room here again.

Room tip: If you like a quiet room like I do ask for one that doesn't overlook the street in front of the hotel.

I would only stay at this hotel again if it was the only hotel with rooms in Bergen. The WiFi was good but difficult to log on, the breakfast was great, but the hotel was old (listed) and quirky. There was nothing special about and old hotel it was functional but not for me.
