“Authentic Bergen Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2013 via mobile

We enjoyed 3 nights at this hotel in October 2013. The position is fantastic - right in the middle of Bryggen, the most historic part of Bergen. Don't pay for a taxi from the airport as we did - it costs 500NOK (~£50) - The Flybussen (airport bus) is great, runs every 15 mins to/from the city centre, stops a 3 mins walk from the hotel, and only costs 90NOK each. The room we booked was described as a Junior Suite - don't expect it to be the size of a similarly described room in an International hotel! (I commented on this and was offered a larger room from night 2, but we opted not to spend time from our holiday moving rooms!) However, the bathroom was nice and modern and the room had lovely wooden beam features and a sofa area. Breakfast is buffet style, lots to choose from. This hotel is right in the middle of an area of several pubs, clubs, and bars - some noise can be heard from the street until the early hours. Overall, we felt it was worth staying in an authentic Bryggen building rather than an international hotel - but that does come with trade-offs!

This is a quirky hotel, being part of an old building so the floor in our room had a definite slope. That said the staff are friendly, the hotel might need a couple of things corrected, but its really nice, in a slightly shabby chic kind of way.

Its huge plus is the location, the historic harbour, Fish Market and the shopping area are all very close, 5 mins walk or less or less.

This hotel has a very good location. It is near the UNESCO heritage site, the airport bus and the Fløibanen funicular station. It was also a 1-minute walk to the restaurant 1877. The negative side is that it is further away from the train station.

Our room 341 (on the 3rd floor) was very charming with a beautiful bathroom, even though there was no view. The breakfast was good too.

I would recommend this hotel for those travelling to Bergen.

My wife and I have just returned from a few days in Norway, including two days in Bergen. Det Hanseatiske Hotell met all our expectations and more. Our second floor room was a good size, cosy and quiet (we stayed mid-week). Breakfast was good. The location right in the heart of Bryggen was perfect. The stay was made even better by the fact that we had perfect autumnal weather.

This hotel has the perfect location in Bergen for a short weekend. It's close to everything of interest and it's easy to get in and out of the hotel during the day (for example for a siesta like we did:-).
The staff is super friendly, easy going and very helpful. The breakfast was great! Our room 222 on the second floor facing the street was also very cosy and fairly spacious. The beds were perfect and the duvets lovely. However, the only negativ thing to be said about it is that during the weekend that we where there, we could hear music form nearby restaurants and drunk people getting over-excited out in the streets until 3 a.m. So if you're sensitive to sounds, make sure to ask them for a room not facing the street.
Thank you for a lovely stay and if we go back to Bergen, we'll definately stay here again!

Room Tip: If you're sensitive to sounds/noises, make sure to ask them for a room not facing the street.
