In all our travel we have never been treated this nice. We stayed at the Clarion Collection Hotel for fifteen days. We were planning to stay four days. My husband was rushed to the Bergen hospital and had emergency back surgery. The people at the hotel, to name a few, Brigitte, Astrid, Bengt-trik, and Camilla were wonderful! They went out of their way to help us. It wasn’t just because of my husband’s situation they treated everyone the same way. When I had to change a room because my husband couldn’t step into the bathtub they immediately changed it. The location is sensational! It is convenient for cabs, Bryggen and the airport bus stop. The room was charming, and clean. We had a spectacular view of the harbor. We thought the hotel was an excellent value. For free, the hotel served a large buffet breakfast, afternoon pancakes, and a light dinner. We sampled everything. There was a wide selection of meat, cheeses, cereals, breads, sausages, eggs and vegetables. We are lovers of goat cheese and we ate more than we should. In spite of my husband’s situation, we were able to enjoy ourselves. We intend to return next year to finish our trip to the fjords.

When we were looking for a hotel in Bergen we were looking for a comfortable ,friendly hotel which offered good value !!! And we found it here.
The position is great for the Bryggen and the Airport bus stops right outside. On this point it is cheaper to buy a return ticket for the bus (if your stay is less than 30 days ) than buy 2 singles. It is 95 Kroner single but 150 kroner return. And with the prices in Norway as high as they are,any saving is welcome.
We were welcomed by a friendly receptionis who explained what we were entitled to---all in perfect english. We were then taken to our room. We had requested a harbour view,by e-mail and that was what we got !!! No extra chargesThe room was lovely. spotlessly clean. king size bed with 2 single duvets---so no fighting !!!i The bathroom was spotless and the glass screen did not cause us any problems. The only thing lacking was tea and coffee facilities, but these are available downstairs.
The main reason we chose the hotel ,though, was the free breakfast, pancakes in the afternoon and a light meal in the evening. I know there have been complaints about the food from other reviewersbut we found it very good. There was a good selection of cold meats, cheeses, fruit, juices and cereals. the bread was fresh and you can cook your own bacon or have achoice of hot mini sasages, egg,or beans.
We were always out,so didnt get to use the pancakes and only used the supper once as that closes at 9. But again we had no complaints. It is ver similar to breakfast.
So all in all we had a great time in Bergen and look fiorward to returning and will stay here again.

Room Tip: Request in advance by e-mail.

We stayed for 2 nights, we picked the Clarion collection for the evening buffet, this was an expensive trip around Scandinavia and they are great for saving money!

The room was a bit small and over looking a courtyard car park and offices but it was very comfortable and nicely furnished. The wifi was free and worked well.

The hotel is very stylised - but done quite well, the breakfast room is large and the choice is good not the best but good, the cooking your own fried eggs and bacon - I just don't like it, it makes your clothes smell and spits and there was a bit of a queue - I don't get the point?

We arrived just after 9pm so the evening buffet was finished, my husband asked if we could get anything and the chef came out and asked what we wanted, when my husband mentioned that I was a coeliac she went out of her way getting me a salad, gluten free bread, ham, cheese and apple, my husband had a bowl of lamb stew - excellent.

Car park - you need to reserve if you want a space they only have 4!! It is outside too so if you'd rather park inside there is the SAS underground hotel car park right outside the hotel, this was full though when we got there so my husband drove to another one a little further away. We'd reserved a space for the second night.

We took a lovely walk around bergen even though it was raining, the hotel is well positioned right next to the old town, we didn't explore this much but there are some nice tourist shops there. It is just 5-10 minute walk to the funicular, the train takes only about 5 minutes to the top and the view is spectacular.

Keep going past here and you can get to the Leper Museum, a great little museum if you have any interest in medicine. The art gallery was great too, especially if you like turn of the century art - Munch etc We normally do the obligatory art stops like the Uffizi in Florence but don't really enjoy it that much but the museums in Norway seemed to better accommodate our tastes - so maybe worth a look even if like us you don't really know about art!

This hotel was very comfortable, and the bonus of the evening Buffet was a haven from the very expensive restaurants nearby. Having to cook your own fried eggs and bacon for breakfast was a first at an hotel, but all other food ie scrambled eggs, hard and soft boiled eggs, were ready prepared. good choice of salads meat cheese etc. the 3.00pm self cook pancake session was also unique and interesting. A bottle of gin in your suitcase is an advantage as a G & T is around £12. Likewise the snacks at the fish market are designed for tourists and likewise pricey. DO get the transfer bus from the airport which runs every 15 mins and stops outside the hotel. We were in the old clocktower and had great Harbour Views. Bergen is very compact and most attractions are close by. Prices when booked via the hotel are ESTIMATES and can vary when checking out

We were booked by a travel agency and got a grim room with an airshaft. For an additonal $80 we were given a standard room over the front which was a floor above the tour and airport buses that always pull in and park. The "light meal," is at best mediocre. I am puzzled as to why Tripadviser rates this the # 1 hotel in Bergen.

Let me reiterate we would go back here again, just being totally honest below as we saw it! We stayed here primarily for it's location, being relatively central it meant the elderly couple with us could go back throughout the day for a rest. We had 2 rooms one at the front, the 2nd at the back, yes the room at the front had the views but also had some noise at night whereas the room at the back had no view whatsoever but also no noise! Breakfast, Pancakes and Evening buffet was a plus for us, we only stayed for 3nights and the food did not vary at all, might be an issue if you stay longer. We thought it was a bit expensive but following our stays elsewhere in Norway once you take into account the meals we had there felt the price we paid was reasonable for Norway! We found the front desk staff to be helpful for us: 1) we ased if there was another room initially as there is a small step between the bedroom and bathroom and one of our party would have a problem with this. Although there were no disabled rooms available we were given an upgraded room with a significantly smaller step. 2) A hire car was due to be delivered to the hotel on our last day, this didn't arrive when expected and the guy on the desk made many phone calls on our behalf to resolve the issue for us.

We stayed here over 4 nights on a recent Norway vacation. The hotel is located right next to the historic waterfront and within walking distance to most anything in Bergen. It is a new hotel, converted from a historic building.

The rooms were kind of small and the bathrooms were even smaller. The toilet was wedged in between a wall and the bathtub. There was barely any room to sit down. The toilet paper holder stuck out from the side, so you had to sit at an angle. It was very uncomfortable. There was very little counter space.

The prices are incredibly expensive. We paid an equivalent of US $450 per night. I haven't paid that much ever and usually those prices are reserved for New York City or a major beach resort. They did offer breakfast and a light meal in the evening to somewhat offset the prices, since Norway is a very expensive country to eat out.

It was basically a no frills hotel with minimal staff and no concierge desk for assistance. Any requests to book tours were referred to the main Bergen tourist center, about a 10 minute walk away. The best thing the hotel has going for it is the location and new, modern rooms, but not too much else.
