The Fisketorget (fish market) was raised in the last years. There is a very nice new fish hall in the house of tourist information. It smells like fish and you see fish and sea animals all over there. Interesting was the stockfish. On the other side of this hall there was a lovely smelling flowers hop.

This was a disappointment. The fish market is very busy, but it caters to a tourist crowd. There is more focus on selling more or less overpriced seafood than actually selling fish. Although this is a main attraction in Bergen, I would not recommend anyone to spend too much time here. Plenty of more genuine places to visit in Bergen.

The Fish Market in Bergen is a hugely disappointing experience catering for mass tourism which is not at all authentic but instead is grossly overpriced even by Norwegian standards. Here you will find hardly any locals buying their fish which is surely something that tourists would want to see.

Want great seafood? Don't go to a restaurant just go to the Fish Market for lunch or dinner. A great variety of seafood that you may not have the chance to sample back home and they will cook it right there for you. After arriving in Bergen from a long day of taking the Norway in a Nutshell tour my husband and I had a late dinner at the market. It was by far the best meal we had in Bergen: seafood soup and a seafood curry. Yum!!!

The fish market is located at the harbour in the heart of the city centre. It has fish mongers all lined up vying for tourist business.
There is an option to sit and have a fresh catch cooked and served to you. It was tasty! The fish market is a must see, must do, must try!
