“Lovely church!”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

Nice little hike to the church with little tourist crowds. Little crowds may be due to no parking for the tour bus. Beautiful church and surroundings.

“good and bad”
Reviewed June 15, 2013

First of all, seeing this re-creation of an actual Stave church is wonderful. It is in a forest setting and has an eerie atmosphere. The ancient cross adds to its allure. The down side is that they charge 50 Kr for entrance to the church...it is VERY small and there is nothing really to see....50 Kr is a rip off to see this. Stick to the outside which is worthy of your time.

“Disappointing but a memorable day.......”
Reviewed May 19, 2013

The day began overcast but lived upto Bergen's reputation for turning on the rain to make it a memorable day. After travelling on the Bybannen to Fantoft we walked to the Stavkirke only to find it closed.
Be great if the opening months were published in the literature! A tour bus load of people turned up whilst we were they were also disappointed to find it closed. The tour guide appeared to be not at all impressed.
The view of the outside was okay but would have been made very complete with a look inside after all that is why we came.

Anyhow as it happens then began one of Bergens torrential and continuing off and on downpours which had us heading downhill to the Bybannen stop at Paradis where we discovered the 'Colonialen Bakeri & Fetevare' on the north side of the intersection of Nesttunveggen and Sandbrekkevegen you cannot miss it. Great, coffee, sandwichs, breads and deli produce with very polite, helpful and accommodating staff especially the proprietor who makes everyone feel very welcome. One of the best bakery deli coffee shops we have experinced to date in Bergen!
As is said "every cloud has a silver lining" and today ours was the 'Colonialen Bakeri & Fetevare'.

“Interesting and very historical and Norwegian, obviously”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

It is located quite a ride from city center, and open only in summer. Not that i missed a lot visiting in April - just the appearance of it is what you need to see (or so I think, at least, having not been inside).

“A must see for tourists in Bergen”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

Just like the fjords and the mountains, Fantoft is a must see in Bergen. The church was built in 1150, moved to this place in 1883 and burned in 1992. It was rebuilt after, exactly like it was before. The church is located in a bucolic area with birds and if you are lucky you might see a squirrel as well. From 15th of May until 15th of September (10:30-18:00) it's possible to go inside the church, paying a small fee (please double check the opening times before your visit). But even outside these dates it's worth a visit - the place looks wonderful during autumn, for example. You could plan a picnic in the area in case of very good weather. It's only 5 km away from the cable car to the mountain Ulriken.
