Really great location, you can't get more central. We landed at midnight and caught the light rail in to the city centre. When you get off the hotel is literally a 1 minute walk.
Our first room was facing the square and the noise on this particular Friday night was too loud for us to properly settle. We moved rooms for the second night and had the perfect nights sleep in the most amazing beds.
All the staff we spoke to were really lovely and helpful. The breakfast is really good with lots of choices.

Dear Hampshire H,

Thank you so much for your feedback - we always appreciate guest reviews!
I could not agree more, our location is great! Although like you mention yourself, it comes with a cost, and some noise must be expected during the weekends if your room is facing the square. Luckily we have rooms on both sides of the hotel, so im glad we could accommodate your needs.

Have a nice weekend and welcome back at a later occasion

Best Regards

Hotel 13 is a funky little hotel right in the centre of Bergen. Our room was European sized (i.e. smallish, especially the bathroom) but nicely appointed and there wasn't much of a view. The staff were helpful and the included breakfast good.

Some reviewers have noted that there is no dedicated reception desk but we liked the informality of the arrangements. We had no problem checking in at the bar/reception desk and a real plus was that we got an instant warm welcome rather than having to wait for someone to appear.

We had booked a superior room (201) and were very happy with its decor. The frosted glass that separates the bathroom from the hotel room that some reviewers have complained about actually gave a feeling of spaciousness to a small-ish room. It should also be noted that there is a door to the toilet which is located inside the bathroom so that aspect of the room is completely private. It was no problem for a couple but if you’re sharing a room with someone you don’t know very well, you may wish to consder requesting a room with a more traditional bathroom layout.

After an evening stroll around Bergen we had a lovely meal in the restaurant at a discounted price because we were hotel guests. Unfortunately, when we went back up to our room, the keycard wouldn’t let us in. We went down to Reception and had the keycard reset on the computer but this didn’t work. Ellen from the reception/bar came up to the room with us to try her master keycard which also didn’t work - disaster! Fortunately, she had also brought the master key with her so we were able to access the room. As it looked like it might be a problem with the door lock, we were immediately offered the option to move to another room which we accepted. In fact, we were upgraded to a deluxe room in the floor above which was even nicer than the previous one. Although it wasn’t great that we couldn’t get into the room, I cannot fault the hotel’s response to the problem. It was dealt with promptly and courteously and this turned what could have been a negative situation into a positive one. 10/10 for customer service!

The second room (302) was much more roomy with a more traditional bathroom. Although our first room was absolutely fine, if you are planning to stay more than one night, I recommend upgrading to a de luxe room as it is a lot more spacious and has a seating area and complimentary tea and coffee. There was also a balcony with bistro table and chairs overlooking the main square which was a bit noisy if the French doors were open but completely soundproofed with them closed.

I rarely comment on the decor of a hotel but I feel I have to correct a previous reviewer who has stated “there is a panel with a photo of half a human face on the wall”. This gives the impression that there is a gruesome photo of a half a face whereas in effect it is a Picasso style mural of a series of overlapping faces in different colours. We loved it but it may not be to everyone’s taste.

There was plenty of storage for even a week’s stay and lots of room for luggage.

The bathroom was great with a wet-room style shower area that had a very effective door on it so no leakage or splashing from the shower which is a pet hate of mine. I loved the fact that the whole room (including shower area) had underfloor heating. The shower had a handset as well as a rain-shower fitting at the top and was fairly powerful. I’m not keen on black tiles but the lighting was pretty good in the room so it wasn’t a problem.

Breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of food incl. English style breakfast, salads/cooked meats, yoghurts, cereals, juices, pancakes, bread and pastries. In fact it had everything you would expect to see in most 5* hotels.

All in all we had an excellent stay here and I would thoroughly recommend it. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, pleasant and helpful and we felt very welcome throughout our stay.

Dear Annabelle J,

Thank you so much for your thorough and detailed review of your stay here at Hotel & Restaurant No13!

Its nice to see that our combined reception and bar worked as intended when you were checking in. It is as you saw the very first thing you see when arriving at the Hotel.
Like you comment, the deign of some of our rooms might not suit everybody, but im glad that you had no problem with the frosted glass to the bathroom.

Im sorry to see that you had such problems with the door-locks after dinner, but we did have some sort of technical malfunction on our door-locks, no guest-card worked, but once checked by maintenance they worked fine - so we have spent some time to discover the "ghost" in our system. But i am told that I should work again now! Im glad Elin at least managed to get you inside and also change the room.

Hopefully breakfast the following day made you forget the door locks from the night before!

Again, thank you for a excellent review - and welcome back at a later occasion!

Best Regards
Carsten & Team No13

Lovely little Art Deco decorated hotel right in the centre of Bergen Norway. Friendly staff. Rooms was of the usual European size (small) but comfortable, not much of a view. Breakfast was nice, we didn’t try the restaurant

We arrived at midnight to a lovely staff member who booked us in in no time . The bat is 24 hours ,handy when you arrive late . The room was decorated funky overlooking the town square and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever stayed in . Very clean . Breakfast was a huge selection of hot and cold food lovely local cheese and fresh fish and salmon , with proper coffees also .it was hard to leave .
Probably the most Ecco friendly place to visit lots to see and do all walking distance . Recommend the fish soup
