Nice, low-budget hostel, very close to the Bergen train station. Run by young Americans. Good location, near the city center. It has only beds in a dormitory with 2 shared showers and toilets. There is a kitchen when you can prepare a breakfast or dinner.
The price for one person in July 2010 r. was 180 NOK

My husband and I stayed here for two nights - chose it because of the price and the location near the train station and city center. After our arrival we honestly considered finding a different place for the second night but stuck it out. A couple issues which say it all...

63 beds in a single room the first night, only 62 the second night after one fell apart.
3 toilets for those 63 people, one which had no light for the duration of our stay.
3 showers, all in poor condition.
Triple bunk beds, some with no ladders, some with broken nails (see first issue in list.)

The staff were friendly enough. Location and free tea were the two redeeming features (there was wifi also.) Kitchen was tiny - we didn't try to use it. Breakfast was offered for a small fee but looked like no more than cornflakes. Bad smell throughout dorm room and bathrooms made us not want to hang around in the building any more than we had to.

Stay here if you need a convenient location and can sacrifice safety and cleanliness, otherwise try to find another place.
