We wanted to find a hotel close to the Bergen Railway station, since we had an early start for the Norway in a Nutshell tour. This hotel it directly across a small laneway - you can't get any closer! That being said, there isn't much to see in the immediate vicinity.
The hotel does not have its own carpark, which it makes clear on its website, so I wasn't surprised. The check-in staff were very helpful in giving me directions to a large multi-level carpark at the nearby shopping centre (it ended up costing us NOK 340 after 3 nights parked there). They also were emphatic that I should not park in the smaller carpark that I had seen next door - aparently it wasn't very secure.
We had two rooms (210 and 209), which I thought were on different sides of the 2nd floor lobby, until I noticed the open door... they are interconnected.
Room 210 (a Junior Suite) is the larger of the two, with a double bed (which could be separated - except our request for that to be done went unresolved during our stay, which was a shame). It also has a 4 chair dining table and 2 lounge chairs with a coffee table.
Room 209 was a little smaller (Double Deluxe room), with 2 single beds, 2 lounge chairs and a coffee table.
The rooms look out over the railway station, which isn't as dull as it sounds. There are glimpses of mountains and the large windows make the rooms feel even more luxurious. Although the floor-to-ceiling window in the bathroom of Room 210 is a little disconcerting (definitely keep the curtain shut!).
As far a dining, for dinner your only option in the hotel consists of the bar. While the choices were limited (and it was short-staffed), the food was lovely.
The breakfast buffet (included) was nice. It had a range of cereals, cold & hot items and a number of different drinks options. Over the days we were there, it became aparent that there were some standard items and then a number of specials each day.
The guest laundry was at the end of the hall on the 2nd floor. Once we'd deciphered the Norwegian instructions, it was easy to use - and free.
Whilst I didn't see the conference facilities in operation, there were a number of conferences running while we were there.
Since our primary focus was on the Norway in a Nutshell tour, the Hotel Grand Terminus was perfect for us. Plus we didn't mind the walk in to the heart of Bergen (and to the Hanseatic Wharf).
