“One night stay, in transit to Tromso from Oslo”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

An excellent hotel which is decorated in its original historical style. We arrived by train in Bergen and were happy to find that the station is very close to the hotel. Our luggage had arrived from Oslo via a Porter Service, (to save us carrying it around all day) and it had been kept safe and secure for us at the hotel, awaiting our arrival. Our room was spacious and classy, with modern fitments in keeping with the traditional, historical style. There's a great dining room at the hotel, but we chose to explore Bergen in the night to find a restaurant for dinner. The streets in the area felt safe to walk around at night, and there was a great variety of restaurants nearby. The reception staff were friendly and helpful to us. Breakfast was in the beautiful old dining room, which has spectacular historical decor. The assortment of food was excellent. I would definitely recommend this hotel for its convenience to the railway station. It was also only a short taxi ride to the airport. The general area is quiet at night so you will have a good night's sleep, followed by an excellent breakfast.

We had just finished the Norway in a Nutshell tour from Oslo and it was a 12 hour+ day and we were naturally tired. It was so nice when we got off the train to practially fall into the hotel across the street. It was the Saturday before Easter and no restaurants were open, but thankfully the hotel had a bar/restaurant with a limited menu and everythign hit the spot. The breakfast in the morning was also enjoyable. We found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful. I room was on the large side because we needed a third bed and it was comfortable. Nothing fancy but this is nice hotel and given the perfect location and service my family was was very happy we stayed there.

Hotel that is quite central to city centre of Bergen.

Quite an interesting place to stay in that the hotel was refurbished from a non-alcohol serving establishment to a modern and trendy whisky bar.

The hotel is spacious and well set out, the dining area is fairly comfortable and a decent breakfast is served. For conferences, I am unsure who dealt with catering, but our lunch was very good, with a variety of foods on different days.

Hotel is typcially Norwegian- straightforward and simple. Staff are friendly and helpful although I never really needed to deal with them too much.

The room was neat and tidy, although my bathroom was so small that my toilet was literally to the side of the hand basin. I could actually rest my forehead on my basin. The concern here is a wet floor- so should your foot slip, you could injure yourself- but that's only my opinion.

Enjoyed the time here and thought it was a classy establishment.

We stayed here after our Hurtigruten Classic Round Voyage - it fitted our requirements perfectly.

Very traditional in its style (the modern art in the dining area did not seem quite right somehow), very clean throughout, well presented bedrooms with comfortable beds and quiet. It is conveniently located for train and bus station (the bus station has a regular service to & from the airport) and is a 5 to 10 minute walk from the harbour area.

Staff very helpful and friendly. Our inclusive buffet style breakfast was very good indeed, particularly the wide choice of teas.

Happy to recommend this lovely traditional hotel.

This hotel is a historic building, with a bar with stained glass windows and over 1000 whiskeys available. Rooms very clean, comfortable, very good beds (as usual in Scandinavia). Decent breakfast (terrible breakfast coffee though, but one doesn't have any expectations of hotel coffee I guess).

Very helpful and pleasant staff. Perfect location for walking to the port area.

Hard to fault really.

Room Tip: My room was at the back, i.e. away from the rail station, but dont be afraid of being on the front...

This is a wonderful old building lovingly restored and done up. The decor is also amazing with a large amount of original art and prints to be admired.

My room was very big the beds were comfortable. As the room was facing the back it was quite but a bit dark. Less important as I was there for a conference. The bathroom was a bit worn and dated and could have used a bit of care.

The wifi was free but temperamental. It worked passably on my laptop & iPad but nowhere in the hotel would my iphone connect.

The breakfast was varied and generous.

Bergen was a nice place - but expensive like the rest of Norway. It was easy to go running but its very hilly so be prepared for some hard work.

We used this hotel because of its proximity to the train station for our early morning departure. The place is a funky combination of new and old, but very clean and kind of fun in its quirkiness. Our room was large and the windows open which is always high on my list.
But best of all, the breakfast which was included in our stay was great...lots of choice, reasonable quality for a buffet style breakfast room and the art in the room is downright bizarre...added to the whole experience which was better than a cookie cutter could ever produce. Would stay again.
