“So atmospheric”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2013

A picture postcard location and a photographer's dream location. The historic wooden buildings are so well preserved and you feel you are stepping back in time if you wander around the alleys in between them and go up some of the staircases. There is a lovely smell of wood. The buildings now contain mainly souvenir shops so it's worth looking up and seeing the older aspects of the buildings. We found it was busier in the morning (harder to take photos) and quieter early evening.

“Impressive, and nothing less”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

I could spend hours exploring the little corners and intricate details of the Bryggen.

Heading towards to the Bryggen, I was greeted by the well-preserved photo-worthy facade of the old wooden houses, which now are mostly souvenir shops and a restaurant. But Bryggen is more than meets the eye. I wandered through one of the small alley openings through the front and I was in for a wonderful surprise. It is a whole new world "inside"!

Come on a windy and rainy Bergen day and could imagine yourself in the late middle ages where the Hanseatic League dominated and lived life in this place. The whole wooden area "inside" is extremely interesting. Not only could you admire the houses from an different perspective, but there are interesting shops, nice cafes and restaurants inside!

The best thing I did in Bryggen was sitting at one of the cafes and simply absorbing the quaint old atmosphere of this UNESCO world heritage site!

The only downside was the toilets. You have to pay 10 NOK to use them.

“Historic site of Bergen”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

This is a must-visit place when you are in Bergen. It's the oldest standing set of buildings with a very interesting history and architecture. You can spend around an hour walking throughout the wooden-board paths and maybe go for shopping as well.

“Quaint old town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2013

Very pretty buildings along the wharf with interesting shops and cafes. Makes for awesome pictures! Walk from the centre of town to the end where you can visit the Hanseatic Museum and Bergen Museum and the Rosenthal tower. Very good on a clear, sunny day.
