There is no need to take the expensive bus from near the fishmarket - just catch a no 12 to Montana and then walk up if possible, there are several routes varying from steep to not so steep. The path is not too difficult though a bit of scrambling is involved; you will be walking on rocks and stones though and I imagine they could be slippery in wet weather (fortunately we chose a dry day). Wear walking boots.

Once you get up there, make sure you go to the cairn which seems to mark the true summit as well as (or instead of) the radio tower and restaurant where the cable car lands. Views are much better from the cairn as you can see all around, not just down to Bergen.

Took the cable car to the top! Most amazing view and had a lamb burger at the top was amazing! Can't fault it! Can't wait to hike it!

A must-do if you visit Bergen. If you're in good shape, take the bus from the city center to the cable car station, or Montana, and take the hike up the mountainside. Great view all the way!

Mount Ulriken is the highest of the 7 mountains surrounding Bergen, at 643 meters above sea level. If you are fit, you should hike it, as the view from the top is so much more rewarding when you had to sweat for it. The hike is quite steep, but not a problem if you are reasonably fit. If you are not it will just take a little longer. Some say that the views from mount Fløien are actually better. If you want to see the city itself that may be true, but at Ulriken you also have a great view to the South East, where you can see as far as Folgefonni in Hardanger on a clear day. Well worth the effort.

Cabin ride up nice and not scary at all, even if you have vertigo issues. And the views from the mountain very beautiful, see more than from the Mt. Floyen.

Unlike tourist info told us there are plenty of hiking trails up around Ulriken! And the trails were great, nice scenary all the way. Even nice lambs came to say hi to us. Our 11yr son found the hiking nice as it was so much to see, usually his walking willingness can be less... However the paths are rocky so make sure the wear proper sports shoes. Quite a bit Up and downs so only for somewhat sporty people. After hiking great to have lunch at the restaurant, good food at reasonable price.

Looked fun to even walk down from the mountain. I regret not doing it.
