“A nice stay in Bergen”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2013

Its been the most comfortable hotel i have stayed in Norway as a semi-backpacker. You can take coffee and tea whenever you want. The location is nice that you can go back to hotel and have a break after you had a few hours walk in the city. The hospitality of the hotel reception was just okay by the way.

Clean, well appointed hotel just minutes away from Bryggen and the pedestrian area of Bergen.
It doesn't look much on the website but three adults sleep comfortably and the location is excellent.
Very helpful receptionist assisted with tracing a missing mobile phone.

This is our favorite hotel in Bergen and we have tried many hotels here. The hotel has a good location close to Torgalmenningen and Bryggen, just 10 minutes walk . A very friendly staff, a homely athmosphere ,free papers, wifi ,coffee and wafles in the afternoon. There is a very nice Beer and Wine Bar on the groundfloor .

Room Tip: The rooms along the Chr.Sunds gate is not so well isolated against the noise from the street.

Located very centrally in town, this hotel is close to everything! The room was clean and very spacious with ceiling-windows, which was nice for listening to the rain...
The breakfast was good, with a nice selection of everything. Which really sets you up for a day of wandering about.
Never tried the dining facilities nor the wine-bar but according to reviews they are good. But why stay in the hotel when you have a city to explore?

The Augustin was well located in Bergen, but then probably most hotels are, as it is an easy City to walk around. However it is definitely situated close to the Fish Market / Bryggen area, as well as the centre of town. We were not happy with the first room allocated to us as it was very dark and looked straight into a very unattractive wall next door. The check-in Reception staff were very accommodating in changing the room to one with a partial view and a lot more natural light, which was great. However it was a long narrow room and we did have to re-arrange the furniture to accommodate our 2 large suitcases and be able to walk past each other. The bathroom was adequate but was an obvious reasonably late addition to the room. Also the floor had a definite bump across the middle indicating it appeared to be a joining of two adjacent buildings at some time. Most basic amenities were available, including WiFi and good international TV channels (lots of UK/US shows and movies with Norwegian subtitles). So all in all quite comfortable considering the expense of Norway - however breakfast was probably the most disappointing of all hotels on our last 3 weeks of travelling - not a particularly good range but the worst things was when they started vacuuming whilst people were still at the tables!! We had dinner one night in the restaurant which was excellent. It has an apparently well recognised and award-winning wine bar (but beware the expense of wine generally in Norway!!). Overall it was a pleasant and comfortable stay if you are not looking for luxury.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a view and natural light - the hotel is surrounded by other high buildings...

We stayed in the Augustin for 2 nights at the end of a 10 day trip round Norway.

The good points are, close location to everything you could want to see in Bergin, although as Bergin isnt very big I guess most hotels cover this. My husband and one teenage daughter walked to the Aquarium one day and this was an acceptable distance took them about 15 mins, this is about the furthest we went. Hotel Reception staff friendly and helpful.

Our rooms were a bit on the small side (although this not always the case from reading other people reviews, so I guess pot luck). Bathroom and shower were fine and free wifi always a bonus. There is also free tea and coffee for residents in the downstairs lounge.

The buffet breakfast wasnt the best we had on our holiday in Norway but it was ok, very busy on the saurday morning (I guess this is the time to be in Bergin), much quieter on the Sunday as was the rest of the city. I dont think there were so many cruise ships docked on the Sunday.

There was quite a lot of noise outside the hotel at night, I am not sure why this was but it did keep me awake, I am quite a light sleeper though.

Finally there is a bus to the airport that stops right outside the hotel so that is handy and kids travel for free. Took about an hour to get to airport as some other hotel stops after ours.

Nice sized room, friendly staff and very close to the centre of Bergen. Decor is slightly outdated but a good sized room and a excellent breakfast. We enjoyed the cosy restaurant underneath the hotel as well as the lovely wine bar and private courtyard.
