Don't be put off by the Mt Floien tag. The pathways are akin to our UK bridle paths, well sign posted and easy walking if somewhat steep in places. The views over the city both from the viewing balcony and the descending rail cars are well worth the effort. Shoemakers lake is particularly peaceful if you get there early enough and the view from the trail above the lake is magnificent.
At the top end of the funicular there is a cafe, rest rooms, children's play area with a large wooden Troll and the inevitable souvenir shop

Called into Bergen as part of a Fjord cruise & caught the double decker hop on - hop off trip, very useful if you have limited time. Started from the cruise ship terminal and did a circuit of part of the town alighting by the fish market, looked at the price of fish, it was very expensive ! crabs were equal to £25 each & cod fillets approx £25 per kilo. Walked down to the orld heritage site of Bryggen, very interesting group of shops etc in charming part of town. The funicular railway is well worth a visit for the view from the top but beware not to go if it is wet or misty as you won't see anything from the top.

It was amazing trip to the inner fjords not so far from Bergen. On the way to fjords there are many small hauses on the both sides of the canal and it looked like fairytale. I have to admit that boat was wery fast but when we got to the fjords, captain dropped speed down and we slowly went through that beautiful scenery with high cliffs full of trees, little fisherman hauses, waterfalls, we even saw snowy mountains far away. We got a small present from the crew - we stopped near the waterfall and everybody got a cup full of extremely cold water from that waterfall. It tasted very good. We went on May and it was very windy, so we went down to the cabin to get some tea.
I strongly recommend this trip.

A fjord cruise was one of our 'must do's' for our three days in Bergen. The tourist booth only offered two options from the same cruise company with both boats going into the same fjord - on a fast boat with little outdoor viewing space or a slower boat, the White Lady, which had more outdoor seating.

The weather was lovely so we selected the 4 hour White Lady option. The scenery was stunning and the guide had a good balance of explaining the sites without talking too much. I however found the boat dingy, and the set-up of plastic chairs on the roof top viewing area was poorly laid out and uncomfortable.

Unfortunately we were also joined by several groups of incredibly rude tourists. While I am glad we were able to get out on the water I wish we had time to look for different options - I saw smaller boats around the harbor that also offered cruises and had we looked into it ahead of time we definitely would have stayed away from the tourist booth recommendation and gone with something different.

We departed from Bergen Harbour, getting a seat on the upper deck to enjoy the stunning views in glorious sunshine. And the views were fantastic! The fjord cruise was approximately 3.5 hours long and stopped/slowed down at various points of interest to give you info on the surroundings. At one point you sail through an area that is closed in from both sides, you can't help feeling very small in the boat. You also pass a very majestic waterfall which allows you to sample the VERY fresh water. Overall a great trip which gives you a little insight into the Norwegian Fjords. Highly recommended.
