Attraction details
Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: Open air museum with more than 80 buildings from Trondheim and the Trondelag area. Beautiful surroundings, and from the ruins of King Sverre's Castle you have a wonderful view over the city and the fjord. The impressive main exhibition Livsbilder, Images of Life, in the public building reflects childhood, youth, adulthood and age in the region during the past century. The rural section shows the development in Trondelag buidling styles from the fjord to the mountains, and how people lived in the 18th and 19th centuries in the different country areas.
Useful Information: Food available for purchase, Activities for older children, Bathroom facilities, Activities for young children, Wheelchair access, Stairs / elevator, Lockers / storage

“Rare Experience”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

Beautiful property accessible on Hop on/Hop Off bus. Three of us had a beautiful day to walk and were greeted with delightful guides near various points. The rare opportunity to visit a stave church and hear Nicolet sing a couple of Norwegian hymns was a highlight. Our interior views of early farm houses were enhanced by the young man who really enjoined relaying information about those houses and the people who had lived in them.

“A Must See”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

If you have never seen Viking houses, then I recommend the guided tour which takes you around the village and into some of the houses and churches. The history is fascinating and the grounds are very nice to walk on your own. The museum indoors at the entrance was interesting but small and the cafe could have been better, though.

“Houses, houses, and houses”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

It's really nice to get to know the history of Norway trough the housing, especially the Sami house on the top of a hill. There is also a nice view of the Fjords.

“loock back in history”

A wide range off vintage buildings from Trondheim and Trøndelag. A lot off activity's for everyone. Buy old candy in a candy store from the 50's. The museum is located at Sverresborg were the old castle Zion was build by king Sverre(1182-83). Take bus nr 8(stavset) from city center to Sverresborg.

“Nice museum!”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

A great place to visit on a sunny day. You can walk around on your own and look inside buildings from as early as the 1600s. I have been there many times with my children. We usually bring lunch and find a nice and quiet place to sit down and eat.
