This is well worth a visit, surrounded by lovely park land. Plenty of areas to enjoy a picnic or can buy at the fortress cafe. Climb the tower and have great view of the city and surrounding area. Interesting displays are well organised on the various floor of the tower. Make the effort you will not be disappointed.

If ever in Trondheim, this is a must. A historical building, surrounded by a park. You can have a picnic nearby or buy food and coffee at the fortress. At the fortress you have a view of the entire city : Nidelven river, the old town, the chatedral +++

Unless you go for a hike in Bymarka or Stadtmarka, or for a meal in Egon Tyholt, hardly you will a get a better city view.

Very popular in summer, where the locals and many students enjoy their sunny evenings chilling out and grilling sausages.

Also the best place in the city to watch the sunset.

P.S.: I was never able to go at the exposition inside the fortress. So, I can give any opinion on it.

A little bit of a steep walk, but the view was worth it.
I loved sitting up here, it was private, relaxing and you could see the whole town

I actually think the name of this place is Kristiansten Festung, or Festning in Norwegian. Alot of nice history, and only a 10 minutes walk from the popular Solsiden, and 15 minutes from downtown. On a warm summer day, the surrounding park areas are nice for a picnic, and the festung itself offers a nice view over the city and the cathedral.
